I work collaboratively with individuals and couples on exploring underlying patterns, unresolved conflicts, and deep-seated emotional concerns that have been causing distress in their relationships with themselves and others. With authenticity and compassion, I work with my clients through relationship and attachment issues, depression, anxiety, self-doubt, shame, loneliness, and childhood trauma, toward greater clarity and fulfillment. I foster a thoughtful space for navigating life transitions, complex family dynamics, questions of identity and purpose, as well as overall feelings of being stuck or lost.

I specialize in the treatment of what are often interconnected problems (mood and anxiety disorders, chronic pain, and trauma), as well as the treatment of behaviors that can develop in response, such as substance use (in an effort to self-medicate). I believe we all do the best we can to cope with pain, using whatever skills we have available. And yet sometimes our best efforts to avoid suffering can serve to keep us stuck retreading the same paths. Step by step, let's venture forward in our work together, letting suffering subside as we uncover meaning, learning to live more full and valued lives.

Therapy is a journey of self discovery which compliments life experiences. It is through active listening and integrative approaches that the past is explored to determine how it relates to the present so that more satisfying life choices can be made. Research shows that there is a mind body connection and for well being and balance, therapy is a resource. If you are on the fence about going, '' It is easy to do the things that are bad and not beneficial to the self but very very hard to do indeed that which is beneficial and good ". ----- Dhammapada.

Everyone goes through life picking up burdens—these can be unhelpful thoughts, difficult emotions, or challenging experiences. My goal is to help you understand how these burdens affect you so that you can create greater choice and intention in your life, increase richness and meaning, and decrease suffering. I believe the most important part of therapy is a trusting and genuine relationship between the therapist and client. My approach to therapy is collaborative and individualized. We will work together to observe what happens between us and how we each contribute to the relationship dynamic that emerges in the session.

The therapeutic process allows individuals to share their story in a safe, healing environment. I believe that everyone has a unique story that deserves to be heard. My priority is to make therapy a safe place for my clients to express their genuine thoughts and feelings, without fear of judgement.

My work with both individuals and couples invites learning about feeling & desire.
My concept of therapy is thinking together with someone about their experiences and their relationships in a compassionate and respectful environment. You can expect our work together to uncover what’s missing in the ways you know and understand yourself. My training is in psychoanalysis, which engages with what is not yet known in the unconscious and brings you to a deeper understanding of your felt experience. Having a witness to support putting language to your process is a powerful part of healing. “The words are purposes. The words are maps.” -Adrienne Rich

The world can be a complicated, confusing, and really overwhelming place, and we all develop our own ways of coping. Sometimes we reach a point where we realize some of our strategies need to change. I strongly believe that removing the shame and stigma associated with certain coping mechanisms and behaviors is integral to adjusting them. I work with clients to identify, and have compassion for, why they enact certain responses, behaviors, and patterns, and develop new ones that meet their current needs and desires.

Trauma is something that can affect any person at anytime. It often leaves a person feeling lost on how to understand their trauma and best deal with it. Trauma informed therapy can include some very heavy topics, but therapy is so much more than just a place to be sad, it’s a place to better understand oneself and grow as a person. I prioritize creating an environment of trust, laughter, self-discovery and learning; I am not a therapist who will sit in a chair and nod my head for an hour. I strive to make my clients feel comfortable and at ease. If that means sitting on the floor for an hour while we speak, then the floor it is!

My goal is to create an atmosphere where you can be your authentic selves and engage in a trusting therapeutic relationship.
I am best reached by email. As a relational therapist, I want to provide a safe space to explore the different aspects of yourself and the relationships around you. Relationships are complex, the ones we have with others, but especially the relationship with ourselves. We may find ourselves stuck in problematic thoughts and patterns, which can be challenging to change alone. Maybe you feel unmotivated, uninspired, unsure of your future, frustrated with your relationships, or uncertain about how to address your concerns constructively without the discussion turning into a fight.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
