The work of life is hard, and we all have a unique innerworld shaped by our experiences, disposition, and learned behaviors that can leave us feeling really stuck. At times, we need support untangling the knot of all that we’re grappling with. Building a relationship together - one grounded in trust and honesty - can become a powerful tool for growth and healing, Regardless of your starting point, I aim to help you safely and authentically expand your capacity for thought and feeling, and along the way, support you in releasing shame, discovering empowerment, breaking unhelpful patterns, and gaining more control over your emotions.

Couples in crisis,or quietly losing their way, have come to me for help in strengthening their relationships in a neutral, supportive atmosphere. I also have extensive experience with individuals (adult and children) and families. In crisis, short term or long term therapy, I am quite familiar with issues of depression, anxiety, work, or family stress. Many clients contact me regarding concerns about isolation, sexual identity, mood swings, and interpersonal relationships . Men, who often seek out therapy less readily than women, are well represented in my practice. People in the arts also occupy a large part of my work.

Do you want to improve your relationships? Do you feel overly anxious at times or "blue" and don't understand where such feelings are coming from? Perhaps I can help you. Over the last twenty-five years I have worked with many individuals with stressful marital and interpersonal issues. Getting a better grasp of the conflicts and feelings you are experiencing can help you create better coping skills and feel more in control of your life. With a Ph.D. in art history, I have a special interest in working with artists, writers, entrepreneurs and other creative individuals.

Welcome, I appreciate your interest. Psychology Today is often the first step towards contemplating therapy, which can be a hard decision. Difficulties like worry, fear, isolation, loneliness, and self-doubt, are more common than you may think and not a choice. I’m here to provide support, expand self-care, provide strategies to assist with coping, problem-solve around worries, and assist with processing thoughts/feelings, leading to deeper clarification and self-awareness. You are already brave to be here.

My clients come to me for help with their relationships ...with their 'significant other', their child, their friend or business partner. They come by themself and they come with their 'other'. People come in crisis when their relationship is threatened or to avoid a potential crisis. Sometimes the crisis is the inability to find the right relationship, sometimes it's difficulty maintaining the relationship and sometimes it's difficulty achieving a satisfying connection because of difficulties understanding and communicating effectively. Specific problems cover a wide range: Trust problems,Control battles,Career/family inbalance, personal dysfunctions, teamwork problems and intimacy issues

My approach to therapy is eclectic with a strong psychodynamic base for understanding the problems that bring people to seek help.
Are your relationships troubled and disappointing? Do your fears and worries get in the way of your being your most creative, productive self? Do you sometimes find yourself in the same situations or repeating behaviors over and over, and you don't know how to find your way out? Habitual ways of reacting and behaving often began as the means of coping with the stresses of childhood, but are no longer useful or appropriate. I would like to help you become "unstuck", become less anxious and worried, feel more comfortable with yourself and happier with your relationships and work.

I believe growth occurs in an atmosphere of respect, compassion, and a belief in the human capacity for healing and change. With this belief, trust, and a collaborative effort, we work together to get "un-stuck" and move towards the resolution of life challenges. My approach to therapy emphasizes insight, self-awareness, and empowerment for the promotion of a more integrated self.

My goal is to guide clients through self-exploration, self-awareness and resilience building that transforms them into self-reliant individuals. I integrate psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral (CBT), DBT, relational, and mindfulness-based techniques tailored to specific needs. The therapeutic relationship is a partnership explored within a safe, non-judgmental environment, working at a pace that is comfortable for the client; we can explore short or long-term counseling. Together, we can work towards resolving feelings of sadness, anxiety, and understanding maladaptive patterns, gaining insight to change problematic behaviors

Whether seeking relief from anxiety and depression, coping with trauma, or working to develop a better sense of who we are and what we want, we all seek therapy because we desire change. And change is difficult. It involves coming to terms with the past, shedding unhelpful habits and learning to function more effectively in the present.

Coming to therapy for the first time can be difficult. You have already taken a huge leap by reaching out for help. As a therapist, my job is to provide and facilitate a space where they can listen and learn from themselves. A space that is non-judgemental and authentic, where healing can take place. I am always inspired by my client’s ability to make connections about how their adult self is influenced by their past. Making these connections is what breaks patterns and creates change.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
