It isn't always easy to make the decision to seek out support in a time of need. I aim to provide a warm and empathic environment to allow you to explore what is bringing you to therapy at this time, and evaluate ways to make changes in your life. Whatever you are going through, you don't have to face it alone. I am a licensed clinical psychologist who provides therapy to individuals with depression, anxiety, life transitions, and conflict in relationships.

As a clinical social worker, I help individuals and couples who are struggling with a wide range of emotional and interpersonal problems, such as but not limited to depression, anxiety, grief, family stressors and relationship, commitment, and sexual issues. My goal is to create a safe, non-judgmental, and empowering space for people to explore the depths of their emotions, thoughts, feelings, and behaviors so that they may identify patterns and potential barriers that could inhibit their personal growth and emotional development.

I believe therapy can help us navigate our lowest moments and achieve our greatest happiness, whether in relationships, careers, or within ourselves. It gives us the freedom to take chances and break negative patterns. Emphasizing collaboration, compassion, and encouragement, I work with individual adults, teens, children, couples, and families. Relationship conflict, anxiety and depression, trauma and grief are among my areas of specialty. I often work with those driven to achieve — offering help coping with pressure, finding fulfillment, and understanding how past experiences can influence the present in subtle yet powerful ways.

Too often, we feel we have become mired in our life—in our sense of ourself, in our relationships, our work, our emotional experience. It may have been building slowly or appeared suddenly with a life event or transition. As your therapist, my goal is first to offer an atmosphere in which you can speak your feelings and thoughts about yourself and your life freely and fully. Then, together we can explore the unique experiences that have led to your current situation, and understand those ways of relating to yourself and others that may have been necessary in the past but now have become problematic.

Life can be challenging and at times even painful - preventing you from achieving your goals, feeling whole, or living to your fullest potential. It can also be very isolating at times, leaving you unsure if you can turn to someone for help and questioning whether there is someone who would understand. You don’t have to navigate these challenges alone. I strongly believe in being present and listening with intention while meeting with clients, as oftentimes people don’t feel heard or are misunderstood, and this is a crucial key towards healing.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
