The goal in therapy is to become the best version of yourself. My clinical specialties include working with adult and older adult clients with anxiety, depression, intergenerational trauma, grief and loss, anger and stress management, relationship stress, and support for caregivers of loved ones with dementia. Our mind and body have a fascinating connection, and we would explore methods of healing from a number of techniques that pull from Western and Eastern medicine. Additionally, I am passionate about exploring and treating unique stressors associated with late-life to promote positive aging in our community.

In individual psychotherapy, we look at how you are currently living and clarify what is working for you and what you want to change. A therapeutic conversation heightens awareness of your feelings, thoughts, sensations and behaviors. With my support, you learn to use your growing awareness as ground for taking experimental steps in new enlivening directions. Our therapy process leads toward resolution, change and growth. I will help you apply what you learn in therapy to your daily life. Our working relationship is important, so the first step is to meet one another. I look forward to meeting you.

Life can look great on paper but how you feel about yourself and your relationships is often what means the most in terms of joy and connection. As a warm and open therapist, I bring my training and experience to help you work through the areas where you feel stuck. People come to therapy for all sorts of reasons. Therapy can provide a gentle place to get stronger and explore what you want in life, love, and your own personal fulfillment, and find ways to feel better.

I have two specialties - Helping couples to improve their relationships and helping people to change. With couples, I start with the belief that caring about each other doesn't always mean understanding each other and that many of us have never learned how to handle conflict effectively in a relationship. For those trying to change, I start with the assumption that we've usually already changed anything that's easy to change and that there are probably obstacles (often ones we are not aware of) to changing things we struggle more with - whether at work, outside of work or both.

My aim is to create an environment where you don’t feel judged, and to help you feel confident to navigate the challenges of life. Therapy reveals our vulnerabilities, which are the step-ladder for self discovery and healing. This is why I facilitate conversations that allow you to feel seen, safe, and heard. I strongly believe your story holds the answer to your questions. Every hurdle we face in our lives is deeply rooted by our past experiences. I want you to share your story with me, focusing on practical steps to change self-limiting patterns and make lasting change.

Welcome! I have worked in this field for over 13 years. I work with preteens, adolescents, college students, and adults. My training and clinical specialties include complex trauma, depression, anxiety, and effects of stress on daily functioning at any age. I work with clients who may feel stuck, isolated, and blocked from engaging in life. Throughout life one faces milestones and expectations that may exacerabate past traumas, poor self-image, and ways of coping that feel uncontrollable. In therapy, I believe that even the most intimate aspects of one's life can be safely explored in a collaborative and caring environment.

Interpersonal Therapists

Is interpersonal therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found interpersonal therapy to be effective for life transitions including retirement, divorce, and job loss. Also, some studies have found it to be just as useful as medication and other therapy approaches. The benefits of interpersonal therapy can last long after treatment has been completed; the individual can use the tenets of this therapy throughout their life.

How long does interpersonal therapy take?

Interpersonal psychotherapy is normally time-limited and focuses on specific problems in the client’s everyday relationships. Treatment can be either one-on-one or take place in a group setting; it tends to last 12 to 16 weeks, depending on the individual client’s needs. If a new interpersonal problem arises in the future, the client may require additional therapy to address it specifically. The timeline and session schedule may vary depending on the client’s challenges as well as their progress. Treatment may conclude with wrap-up sessions to review the client’s accomplishments.

Is interpersonal therapy effective?

Research shows that interpersonal therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of conditions such as depression or anxiety. The approach may also offer a range of benefits that are hard to measure but valuable—including healthier relationships and improved feelings of self-worth. The therapist will give the client practical solutions that can be put into practice. The brief duration of this therapy also means that clients can see changes in their relationships fairly quickly.

What are the limitations of interpersonal therapy?

Interpersonal therapy may not effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as psychosis, chronic illness, or alcohol relapse. Because it is short-term in nature, it may not be the best approach for conditions that need to be tracked, though maintenance sessions are a viable approach under these circumstances.

Can interpersonal psychotherapy be done online?

Yes, interpersonal psychotherapy can be conducted effectively either in-person or online. A therapist with expertise in IPT will be able to adjust their techniques, such as role-playing, to better suit the online environment. Offering online IPT can make it more accessible for clients who have transportation difficulties; it also provides the ideal opportunity to explore challenges unique to digital relationships.
