As a psychotherapist, my ultimate goal is to provide a safe and supportive environment for my clients to grow as a person and develop skills that will improve their overall quality of life. Therapy isn’t a one size fits all practice. Therefore, I believe in building good rapport with my clients to properly assess their needs in order to determine an individualized treatment plan. I have experience working with populations whose cultures and backgrounds often stigmatize mental health, therefore I am passionate about bridging that gap. I'm thankful that you have visited my page and I look forward to working with you!

What would your life look like if you were safe with your mind, body and spirit? What areas of your life feel disconnected from your true values and authentic self? Are you looking for support and tools while navigating anxiety, depression, self-doubt? The stressors and challenges of life can sometimes leave us feeling unequipped. In the therapeutic relationship, we build a trusting space; getting curious about your beliefs, habits and environment. Why are you stuck? What thoughts, beliefs and relationships are nourishing you? What's blocking you from developing new healthy habits, connecting with loved ones, practicing self care?

Encountering struggles in our lives is a universal part of our humanity. Sometimes we feel overwhelmed and alone, whether going through a painful breakup, dealing with grief from a tragic loss, coping with the pressures of career or chronic illness, or dealing with family and relationship situations. Sometimes we just need someone to talk to, who is impartial, can listen, and who can help us somehow make sense of it all. Therapy can act as a bridge of compassion and hope, to get us through to the other side to a greater understanding of our authentic selves and to help us reach the potential to live our best lives.

Our Childhood, history, and personal myths about ourselves are powerful forces that have the ability to shape our interpersonal relationships and behaviors; worldview and ourselves. At some point, we have all experiences, challenges or life altering experiences that will have the ability to change our trajectory, bring us to a cross road or that will challenge our core beliefs about ourselves and the world around us. Through my work with individuals, families and couples I have enjoyed helping others to navigate these obstacles in order to transform these adverse experiences into opportunities of growth.

Women's Issues Therapists

How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?

Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?

Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
