Postpartum Depression - Park Royal, Treatment Facility in North Fort Myers
“While the birth of a child is often met with great enthusiasm and joy, in some new mothers, it can also lead to depression. The "baby blues" are quite common in new mothers and are characterized by mood swings and crying jags that fade after several weeks. Some new mothers, however develop a more severe form of depression: postpartum depression (PPD). Postpartum depression isn't a sign of weak character or that a woman doesn't love her baby - it's simply a complication of birth. PPD is quite common, affecting one in every eight (or 13%) woman after birth. Symptoms include pervasive sadness long past the hormone shifts, lack of sleep, and adjustment to life with a newborn, feelings of guilt, anxiety, stress, and feelings of hopelessness. Some women with postpartum depression report that they don't feel joy or excitement about their new baby, which causes extreme emotional distress. With early treatment and proper support, nearly all women with postpartum depression are able to make a full recovery and return to a happy, healthy life with their new baby.

“I welcome any client who feels the need to address, explore, and create new ways of thinking and responding to stresses and issues of every day life. I work to provide a therapeutic environment that is warm, supportive, and free of judgement, so that my client may feel safe, secure, and accepted. As the element of trust grows with the therapeutic process, clients often become more introspective and develop a greater understanding of how needs play an intrinsic role on maturation and overall health.

Carol Anne Russo, Counselor in North Fort Myers
“It is often difficult to find someone who you can trust and who will really listen. Yet, we all need a safe place where we can tell our story and speak honestly. Sometimes life can become especially difficult. Having an objective, trained counselor can provide the tools and opportunity to open the door to peace and understanding. I believe passionately in the power of therapy to reshape lives and discover our innate capabilities. Often couseling will include disputing false beliefs like "I'm not good enough". Yes, you are. Come on in and I will prove it to you!

Addiction Treatment - Park Royal, Treatment Facility in North Fort Myers
“Many people operate under the erroneous assumption that people who are addicted to drugs simply lack the willpower to stop. However, addiction is a complex disease and quitting requires more than a strong will or good intentions. Substance abuse does, over time and with repeated use, actually change the ways in which the brain works. Addiction is a chronic, sometimes relapsing disease that leads to compulsive drug seeking and abuse despite the harmful consequences to the person and those around him or her. While the initial choice to use drugs is voluntary, the changes in the brain from repeated use challenge a person's self-control and changes his or her ability to resist intense cravings to use drugs. Symptoms that a loved one or family member may be addicted to drugs can include: neglecting personal responsibilities at work, home, or school due to drug use, unexplained changes in personality or attitude, sudden need for money, extreme mood swings, strained interpersonal relationships, changes in eating or sleeping patterns, an possibly unusual smells on the body, breath, or clothing.
