Much of my experience has focused on helping individuals with mood disorders, ADHD/ADD, sexual assault/abuse, trauma, grief, and LGBTQ issues.
My focus is on meeting each person where they are at; seeing their uniqueness and strengths and using these as the foundations for bringing about desired change, acceptance, and helping one see their own strengths. I have a variety of tools in my therapeutic "tool box" and strive to use the tools/techniques that resonate most for each individual. For some it may be a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) approach or Dialectic Behavior Therapy (DBT), others Mindfulness, and still others spirituality, somatic work, imagery, or art process may resonate... usually it is a combination of several.

People do not look for a counselor when life is going well so if you are reading this bio I imagine that your are experiencing some difficult times, and emotions. You want to alleviate the weight on your chest, knot in your stomach, and ache in your soul. Maybe you want to learn how to reduce conflict in your home and create a stronger relationship in the process. I would love to work with you to do just that. I am a double graduate from Liberty University (BS Psychology, MA Counseling), a certified trauma treatment professional, EFT tapping level 2 professional and a South Carolina LLR Certified Licensed Professional Counselor

I specialize in grief counseling, trauma recovery, substance abuse, and adolescent self-harming behaviors.
Life is hard. Hope is found in facing the reality of your past and present. The goal of treatment that I strive for is for you to become all you were created to be; to be healed from the pain of the past, and move into the possibilities of the future. Whatever the past has thrown your way; whatever you are facing today; whatever future challenges are producing fear and anxiety, I would consider it a privilege to help you overcome your hurts, habits, and hang-ups. The past cannot be changed...the future is yet in your power. Don't let your past dictate who you are....Let it be part of who you will become.

We work with individuals dealing with feelings of anxiety, anger, depressed mood, low self-esteem and grief as well as relational, trust and spiritual issues. We have a desire to help couples better prepare for marriage by discussing the topics of individual temperament, love, attitude, communication, finances, conflict, intimacy and others. We have a heart to support and see marriages restored. We know everyday challenges can cause couples to drift apart, develop bad communication patterns or just get stuck in a rut. We lead you on a path back to the connection you had on the day you said, "I do."

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
