The three primary goals I help my clients work towards in therapy are healing, recovery, and change. My areas of concentration include trauma, depression, anxiety, grief, divorce recovery, narcissistic abuse recovery, and work/career-related stress. Because your unique needs bring you to therapy, we will develop goals to meet such needs and evaluate our progress as we work towards set goals. My approach to treatment is conventional (evidence-based techniques), and faith-based Christian counseling. None of us is immune to life's stressors, but effective therapy can help us remain at peace as we handle those.

Sometimes in life we are struggling and need an accepting, affirming, supportive, and nonjudgmental space to explore, heal, and grow. Maybe you are experiencing a major change or loss in your life. Maybe you have trauma. Maybe you are struggling in your interpersonal relationships. Maybe you need to better understand yourself. Maybe you are struggling with thoughts and behaviors that you don't know how to change. There are so many reasons why people seek help from a therapist. Through my practice I have assisted people with many different kinds of struggles, and maybe I can assist you.

Couples are my primary specialty; I also do trauma work with individual adults. I work with people who are wrestling with feeling lonely, exhausted, sad, anxious, disconnected, or failing in their most important relationships, those who believe they aren’t enough or aren’t good enough for their person, those who just want peace, those who are afraid their person will leave, those who move away from emotions and those who are all too aware of them.

I have specialized training in trauma and how faith and psychology may integrate.
A strong relationship with the counselor is essential for the counseling process. The client comes to the process with a commitment for change. Sometimes the commitment is marginal and helping fortify that commitment is the initial part of our work. I believe that my most effective work is with people who struggle with depression, anxiety, relationship issues, family of origin issues and trauma. I work extensively with clients who have personality disorders (ingrained patterns of self defeating behavior). My practice is geared toward adolescents 13 years old through senior adults. I work with individuals and couples/families.

My training in the areas of counseling, trauma, addiction (substance and behavioral), bodywork, energy work, mindfulness technique, teaching, coaching, mediation, crisis advocacy support, and business management all influence my therapeutic style.
(6/15/21: Temporarily not taking new clients.) Sometimes the winds-of-change blow through our lives, taking us down unfamiliar paths or through difficult, unwanted, or foreign terrain. These challenges can be painful and disruptive; however, they can also be "trailheads to inner peace". I'd like to guide you on your path of healing as you seek empowerment, growth, or insight in a particular area of your life. I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor, an Alcohol and Drug Counselor, and a Certified Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapist and Consultant with over 40 years of combined experience in counseling and integrated therapy.

I am an experienced EMDR Therapist (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocess), DBT Therapist (Dialectic Behavioral Therapist) and CCTP (Certified Complex Trauma Professional).
“This is the last time I am giving therapy a try”. I have heard these words from many new clients that have had amazing success stories after working with me as their therapist. Not all therapists are the perfect fit for all clients. Let me be that person that helps you become UNSTUCK. You may wonder what makes my approach different than past experiences in therapy. I am a therapist that will help you process your symptoms, challenge your thoughts, give you homework, and keep you accountable. It is nice to process our day-to-day events, but processing alone can keep us feeling STUCK!

The foundation of my holistic approach is to use skills-based training to stabilize emotions and behaviors, supported by somatic experiencing, and then followed by trauma processing.
Have you been in therapy for as long as you can remember and still have no idea how to regulate your emotions, what to do with your life, or how to maintain healthy relationships? Do you feel things so very deeply, and no one else seems to understand? Maybe you don't know how to turn off intrusive thoughts in your mind, and are desperate to find connection with something that’s real. Are you a caregiver navigating complex parenting dynamics and feeling distressed and hopeless? Have you suffered loss, invalidation, or abuse and have never been able to fully put that weight down? If so, you are my people.

Gina specializes in working with individuals and couples who are struggling with relational and marriage issues, grief, trauma, life transitions, and career difficulties.
Gina’s journey to counseling was anything but direct. After completing her master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling (with a specialization in crisis and trauma) at Walden University in 2015, Gina worked at the University of Central Oklahoma as an academic advisor. Her life took an unexpected turn when in November 2019, Gina’s husband was killed in a tragic military aviation training accident. The tremendous loss of her husband affected her in many ways, including gaining a greater understanding of the impact of grief and trauma as well as the secondary losses that occur as part of reconciling the death of a spouse.

You thought you’d have a better grasp on life by now, right? If you’re honest, you’ve grown weary of the merry-go-round of trying & failing to the point that you’ve started recycling those same strategies to no avail. Maybe you’re finally ready to admit that your ability to navigate relationships hasn’t improved despite your efforts & communicating simply feels like standing in the middle of a minefield. It doesn’t have to be this hard. Maybe I can me help! Trauma impedes our ability to accurately filter what we see, hear & experience in life, therefore, inhibiting our ability to function optimally, especially in relationships.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
