My treatment approach derives from an accumulation of lived experience, extensive education, and post-graduate internships. This gathering of knowledge has provided me with the inner wisdom to help guide my clients toward clarity and greater emotional intelligence. This is done through a curious and compassionate examination of the self, and ways in which we have allowed our past to define us. I work from a strengths-based and relational model, meaning that trust must be established first before we can “do the work.” I am not keen on diagnosis, but use them instead, as a guide towards how I can best serve you. Are you struggling with PTSD, anxiety, trauma, grief, loss, depression, or relationship problems? I may be the therapist to help you get through these challenges. I help my clients identify information that is stored in their minds in unhelpful ways, and then we work together to reprocess, desensitize, and reintegrate this information so that the disturbance is reduced or alleviated. My goal is to help you get to a point where you no longer live in the past, you are managing or enjoying life, and you have hope for the future.

Living well should be about more than just coping with pain! So many of us may struggle for years with anxiety, depression, loneliness, "scattered"-ness and difficulty finding and keeping good relationships. Good therapy helps people develop internal resources, gain trust in themselves, and clarify what really matters to them so they can build rich and rewarding lives. As your partner in that process, my goal is to help you overcome obstacles and get tangible results that last!

Do you find yourself wondering if there has to be more to life than 'this,' whatever 'this' may be? Perhaps you find yourself plagued by thoughts, feelings, and images popping up at highly inopportune times (like bedtime or after social events). Our bodies can only handle so much stress before they start throwing out warning signs, most of which we've become quite adept at ignoring. Whether you are aware of the 'why' or source of these feelings or not, we don't have to live this way. We cannot escape the ups and downs of life, but we can learn to navigate those peaks and valleys without the constant worry of 'Am I doing life right?'

I promise you that even when it feels like you just can't do it anymore.. you really can! I personally have experienced much of life's hardships but I'm grateful for that because it gave me the opportunity to help others! I love helping people find their passion and understand how to cope through life. I primarily work with narcissistic abuse survivors as well as empaths and HSP's. Understanding how to function in a world that you seemingly don't fit into can be a huge challenge that comes with what seems like, debilitating anxiety, depression, and more. Being an empath myself, I can completely understand and relate to my clients!

I am a seasoned therapist with over a decade of experience helping individuals, and couples, cope with things that have happened to them beyond their control. People work with me when they have experienced an event, or time in their life, that is keeping them stuck and impacting other areas of their life. My passion is working with Trauma (both acute and complex), PTSD, Sexual Abuse, Domestic Violence, and Family Abuse. Feeling broken, hurt, guilty, embarrassed, or afraid can be so heavy to carry around. We can stop the triggers, the new fears, reduce shame, and get back in touch with the good parts of what life was like 'before'.

Sexual Abuse Therapists

How do therapists treat sexual abuse?

A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?

Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?

Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?

As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
