Talking honestly about your life with someone who can provide a calming perspective can make all the difference. I am a psychologist who works with adults, children, teens, and couples. My practice includes many people who are feeling depressed, discouraged, angry, anxious, or seem to be unable to make progress as they should. My approach is adapted to every client I see. I take a client-centered, individualized approach and will use a mix of techniques from psychodynamic approaches, family systems theory, and cognitive-behavioral therapy to provide you with the therapy that is best suited to your individual needs.

My approach is psychodynamic.
I can attest, having worked with many clients over the years, I have witnessed time and time again the true value that a psychotherapeutic relationship can provide. Through hard work, growing authenticity, and commitment, a therapeutic relationship brings forth genuine opportunities for new & useful insight, new eye opening perspectives, the application of new and working coping skills, a freedom from debilitating challenges like anxiety, panic, depression, a renewed & focused life plan, significant transformational changes, and more. Therapy can have a significant impact, once you make the powerful decision to seek treatment, and develop new belief that life can be different.

While my primary orientations are psychodynamic, attachment and trauma focused, I believe that healing happens in a safe, respectful relationship and attuned, empathic environment.
Are you feeling anxious or depressed? Blocked? Do you struggle with relationships, being assertive, asking for what you need, setting appropriate boundaries or navigating conflict? Do you have a history of trauma or neglect and still struggle with its effects? As a LMFT, I can help you explore these issues and more, so you can come to understand yourself more deeply and make more conscious life choices.

I use a blended approach to meet each client’s unique needs, drawing from psychodynamic (attachment), CBT, brief models, family systems and narrative therapy.
One of the amazing aspects of therapy is that it provides a unique opportunity for people to have a space where the focus is on their needs and growth. Very few other spaces exist where your needs and well-being can be the priority. This is a key part of the healing power of therapy, which is why I believe it is so important you find a therapist who is a good fit for you. Sessions by secure video or phone & limited in-person options in Castro Valley & Hayward). (In-Network with AETNA, OPTUM & CIGNA via Alma)

My theoretical approach is based in the psychodynamic perspective but is ultimately client-centered.
I offer compassionate and effective therapy at an affordable price. Do you sometimes feel confusion, anxiety, sadness? Are there times you are overwhelmed or feel out of control? These feelings are often worsened when we try to work through them alone. That is where I come in for support. I provide a safe environment where you can feel seen, heard, valued, and can feel comfortable showing up authentically. I prioritize a collaborative and connection-based therapeutic relationship where YOU are honored as the expert of your own experience and feel you are in the driver's seat of your healing.

Hello! I'm a licensed clinical psychologist who's worked professionally for 8 yrs in addition to my prior 6 yrs of clinical training in various community outpatient, managed care, and hospital settings. While I have extensive experience across the age span, my current focus is adolescent, young adult, and adult therapy. The journey from childhood and through adolescence is complicated. Social, academic and athletic stressors are frequently overwhelming. The result can bring tremendous pain and confusion to an entire family. I have extensive experience clarifying the source of a problem and consequently providing appropriate treatment. Play therapy, individual talking therapy, family and/or group therapy are all possible tools in the healing process. Past work has equipped me with strong knowledge in each of these modalities. My goal is to provide the best treatment solution.

With cross-cultural living and working experiences, I enjoy working with children, teens, and their parents to help address developmental challenges, relationship conflicts, emotional struggles, behavioral difficulties, and other mental health issues that they may encounter in daily life. I deeply believes that childhood experiences and parent-child relationships could play an extremely important role in one’s personal development and, by helping to build a secure enough emotional bond among family members, can create a power of healing throughout everyone’s life.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
