Accepting New Clients! I believe all parts of you hold wisdom. I am here to help you discover the resources you have within and around you, so that you may better move toward the life you want. This may look like acknowledging, grieving, and moving past trauma responses that once served you but are now keeping you stuck. Or it may look like finding the wisdom and underlying needs that are communicated by your anxiety, depression, and/or dissociation. Maybe your mind and body are in conflict, or you seek spiritual growth.

In my part time private practice I offer counseling/therapy to adults, children, adolescents, and parents. My areas of special interest include anxiety, depression, and parent education. I enjoy working with adults who are dealing with life challenges, loss, and seeking personal growth. When seeing children or adolescents, I typically use a child centered approach with the opportunity for play therapy. I also have experience with CBT, EFT, and mindfulness. These techniques are helpful in treating individuals who are experiencing anxiety, regulation of attention and impulse control, and trauma.

Originally from Nebraska and Colorado, I have lived in Indiana, Oregon, LA and now in Raleigh for 30 years. I've helped people from all walks of life, including diverse ethnic, racial and spiritual backgrounds.

Maybe you've needed help for a while now, but getting started is the hardest part. Struggling with trauma, depression, anxiety, and/or mood swings isn't sustainable. It impacts your relationships, your self-esteem, and your day to day life. You realize this, and so you are willing to "put in the work" inside and outside of therapy sessions. I am willing to match your energy and provide resources and skills to not only help you feel better, but to thrive!

If you're feeling depressed, anxious, bad about yourself, stuck in a bad relationship, violated, are grieving, have a narcissistic parent, or are recently separated/divorced, I can help.
Here is your sign. It's time to deal with your trauma. Triggers happened and you're still recovering. Life feels hectic. You've been meaning to take time to care for yourself, but it just hasn't happened yet. You're determined now; you've made the decision to take care of yourself...AND you know you want some help doing it. What if you could connect to someone who could truly see how you're doing and not pass judgment? And what if having someone wisely walk with you will help your life improve?

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
