When I was a defiant and moody adolescent, my parents sought therapy for me. The therapy room was place in which I felt understood. I was able to learn great insight into how I think and understanding others' perspectives. It was through that experience that I was inspired to create an environment for others that was both validating and encouraging. I try to establish a therapeutic relationship that enables each person to make progress with their goals, whether it be their self-esteem, interpersonal relationships, managing challenging emotions, or getting through an especially challenging life event.

My basic approach is CBT with an interpersonal focus to build a strong therapeutic alliance.
I deliver evidence-based interventions with compassion, genuineness, humor, empathy, and professionalism. You can’t surprise me and I won’t judge you. My goal is to help you heal and develop self-compassion with the skills you need to cope. Every individual is unique and I believe there is no “one size fits all” when it comes to psychological care because you are not your diagnosis. I will draw on your strengths to decrease distress, improve resilience, and work through barriers to experiencing whole-hearted well-being.

As you learn to set healthy boundaries, a transformation unfolds in your interpersonal relationships, fostering deeper connections and mutual understanding.
I founded my practice to help women reclaim their power by finding their “inner voice” to communicate, become more vulnerable, and be more self-compassionate in their everyday lives. I am passionate about acknowledging client’s strengths as they overcome shame and guilt from past life experiences. In doing this, I strive to provide clients with a safe and non-judgmental environment to achieve their goals. I work primarily with millennial women and teens dealing with anxiety, self-esteem, and communication issues.

To this end, I highlight insight-oriented, interpersonal, and psychodynamic therapies.
I specialize in helping adults negotiate turning points and transitions. These turning points are the critical experiences making our lives' narratives uniquely ours. Transitions may come in the form of divorce, grief, job loss, health concerns, or parenting status changes. Alternatively, transitions may be signals it is time for a change. My work focuses on making meaning of these transitions and the stressors that often accompany them. Some of my specific areas of practice include work and career issues, relationship concerns, and stress and stress management.

As a therapist, I am experienced and passionate about working with individuals with anxiety, depression, interpersonal and internal conflict, faith and spiritual matters, grief, and cultural issues.
Desiring connection with others? Struggling to see yourself in a positive light? In my personal and professional life, I feel a natural inclination to connect with and help others. I've had many meaningful experiences of need and brokenness in my own life, in which I have been genuinely touched by others that have come alongside me as agents of healing and strength. This sparked my desire to come alongside others and to help them develop a healthy view of themselves and positive attitudes that promote striving toward one's goals and cultivating healthy relationships.

Using ACT, CBT, interpersonal therapy, and positive psychology, I will help you have the relationships you have always wanted AND be the mom you have always wanted to be.
Are you a mother (of kids or adults) who is feeling anxious and overwhelmed? Maybe you are a parent of a child with ADHD, anxiety, autism, or other challenges. You might have similar challenges yourself or other stressors contributing to things feeling so hard. You might be doing your best with a prickly teenager or an adult child, but you are feeling overworked and underappreciated. You may be feeling lost because you have an empty nest or misunderstood as a grandmother or mother-in-law. Maybe you are exhausted from conflicts within the family, taking care of everyone else, even a parent, or grieving the loss of a parent.

Interpersonal Therapists

Is interpersonal therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found interpersonal therapy to be effective for life transitions including retirement, divorce, and job loss. Also, some studies have found it to be just as useful as medication and other therapy approaches. The benefits of interpersonal therapy can last long after treatment has been completed; the individual can use the tenets of this therapy throughout their life.

How long does interpersonal therapy take?

Interpersonal psychotherapy is normally time-limited and focuses on specific problems in the client’s everyday relationships. Treatment can be either one-on-one or take place in a group setting; it tends to last 12 to 16 weeks, depending on the individual client’s needs. If a new interpersonal problem arises in the future, the client may require additional therapy to address it specifically. The timeline and session schedule may vary depending on the client’s challenges as well as their progress. Treatment may conclude with wrap-up sessions to review the client’s accomplishments.

Is interpersonal therapy effective?

Research shows that interpersonal therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of conditions such as depression or anxiety. The approach may also offer a range of benefits that are hard to measure but valuable—including healthier relationships and improved feelings of self-worth. The therapist will give the client practical solutions that can be put into practice. The brief duration of this therapy also means that clients can see changes in their relationships fairly quickly.

What are the limitations of interpersonal therapy?

Interpersonal therapy may not effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as psychosis, chronic illness, or alcohol relapse. Because it is short-term in nature, it may not be the best approach for conditions that need to be tracked, though maintenance sessions are a viable approach under these circumstances.

Can interpersonal psychotherapy be done online?

Yes, interpersonal psychotherapy can be conducted effectively either in-person or online. A therapist with expertise in IPT will be able to adjust their techniques, such as role-playing, to better suit the online environment. Offering online IPT can make it more accessible for clients who have transportation difficulties; it also provides the ideal opportunity to explore challenges unique to digital relationships.
