I have additional experience and training working with eating disorders and past traumas, including training in EMDR therapy.
Life can be chaotic and weird, and a huge part of therapy is learning to find balance, and what balance is is entirely up to you. Maybe you're looking for support as you adjust to the changes of our current world, newfound independence as you enter into your 20s and beyond, struggling with anxiety or depression, ADHD, your relationship with food and body, or just want someone to talk through things with. My hope is that together, we can collaborate to help you in your journey through life and into adulthood.

My trauma-focus helps resolve addictions and eating disorders with Certified Brainspotting.
Clients seek me out sometimes years into trying typical CBT/DBT life-skills therapies. They feel they need something more than self-regulation skills to feel understood, desiring to know themselves on a deeper plane of existence. My depth psychology approach is a soulful dive into Psyche: the Jungian unity of unconscious Dreams, Motivators, and Shadow, -married to your consciously-lived life. When unconscious patterns conflict with our known desires, we become stuck, feeling anxiety, depression, disconnected from ourselves and from humanity. Is it time to embark on a different journey of self-discovery? Schedule a free consultation!

Are you falling apart behind the scenes? You might go at 100 miles an hour at work or school, but then find yourself completely burnt out and turning to scrolling, smoking, or zoning out to feel better. Perhaps your connection to your family of origin is rocky (at best). You may be feeling disconnected and moody, sometimes for no reason. And even though you’re trying to stay calm and be rational, you keep getting caught up with feelings of anger, anxiety, and shame. Maybe you've gotten really good at taking care of everyone else, but you haven't quite figured out how to take care of you. You're in the right place. :)

People come to a point of change from a wide variety of backgrounds and perspectives. I work best with those who have recognized that what they are currently doing is not making them happy - and who have a real commitment to finding ways to alter their present situation. My counseling style is both interactive and supportive.

Hi there, I'm Blake, a licensed clinical social worker. I've helped people with many issues like anxiety, depression, personality disorders, grief, divorce, severe mental diagnoses, and many more. I am trained in many different therapies and tailor a plan to each patient, rather than tailoring a patient to a plan. In my view, people used to mostly lived in close-knit communities, which has eroded with the advances in transportation and technology. Most people have lost the social support our forebearers had. Mental Health Professionals have taken on this role and are an excellent resource to improve your well-being.

I enjoy working with a variety of issues, however my specialty areas include anxiety, depression, eating disorders, body image and immigration issues.
It can be painful to struggle with issues and wish that they might somehow disappear. I understand how these issues can sometimes make you feel your life is stuck and that they can prevent you from living or enjoying your life more fully. I also know how difficult it can be to seek help or talk about these issues. This is why it is my approach to get to know each client and find an individualized and unique path to addressing the issues that are preventing them from creating a greater sense of well-being and happiness.

I have extensive experience working with individuals, couples, and families whose lives have been negatively impacted by mood disorders (depression, bipolar disorder), substance dependence/abuse (drugs, alcohol), and eating disorders (anorexia, bulimia, binge-eating disorder).
Are you feeling overwhelmed and stressed-out in your relationship?  Do you sometimes find yourself drinking/smoking/eating to cope? Are you and your partner having the same argument over and over? If you answered 'yes' to any of these questions, you're in the right place. You want to understand why these pattern keep happening. You want to learn how to cope with feelings like anxiety, sadness, and anger so you can be more present. You want to learn how to identify and express your feelings and needs more effectively to build more emotional intimacy with your partner/s. You're ready for a change.

Eating Disorders Therapists

What happens in therapy for eating disorders?

In therapy for eating disorders, patients typically describe their eating and exercise behaviors, their patterns of eating in relation to stress, their beliefs about their body, the ways their eating behavior affects their relationships, and their desire (or lack of it) to change. Such information helps the therapist understand the origins of the disorder and the role it plays in the patient’s life, important for guiding treatment. Attitudes and feelings about food and eating, body weight, and physical appearance are common topics of discussion throughout treatment.

What therapy types help with eating disorders?

Once any acute medical or psychiatric emergency is resolved, psychoactive medication is often prescribed, requiring the supervision of a psychiatrist. In addition, patients receive some form of nutritional counseling along with one or more forms of psychotherapy. For adolescents, family-based treatment is empirically validated and considered the first line of treatment; parents and their children meet weekly with a clinician as the adults are coached on how to nourish and psychologically support the young patient. Adults typically receive some form of individual psychotherapy, intended to resolve the cognitive and behavioral disturbances that underlie the disorder and to relieve the mood disturbances that accompany it. In addition, patients may also be helped by group therapy.

What is the goal of therapy for eating disorders?

The most immediate goal of treatment for eating disorders is to save the life of people who are on a path of starving themselves to death or engaging in eating patterns that are doing irreparable physical harm to their body. Once the acute medical danger is past, therapy is required to understand the nature of the disordered eating and/or exercise patterns, establish healthy eating behavior, and to tackle the many erroneous beliefs and distorted self-perceptions that underlie eating disorders and continue to pose a threat to health and life. Therapy also addresses the impaired mood that not only accompanies eating disorders but intensifies the danger to health and life.

What are the limitations of therapy for eating disorders?

Therapy can be very helpful for eating disorders—but that can happen only after people recognize they have a condition that must be treated. Especially with anorexia, the distortions in self-image that accompany the disorder can keep people from acknowledging they have a problem. Individuals may in fact see their eating disorder as a badge of self-control. Those with binge-eating disorder may feel too ashamed to seek help. Therapy cannot help those who do not avail themselves of it.

How long does therapy last for eating disorders?

Because of their complexity, recovery from eating disorders is usually a long-term process—measured in months and years— often marked by setbacks and relapse. Some form of help, such as individual or group therapy, may be advisable for much of that time. It is a general rule of thumb that the longer the illness has endured and the dysregulated eating behavior has taken root, the longer treatment is likely to be needed.
