How are you going to live this one precious life? I work best with clients who value deep self-exploration, and who want to cultivate intimacy with themselves, with others, and with life. Rather than solving problems from your thinking mind, I will help you access your embodied (i.e., thinking, feeling, sensing, spiritual) intelligence so that you can make conscious choices that express your fullest, authentic self. I believe our most challenging areas of darkness are potential portals for contacting what is most real within our self. I specialize in depression, anxiety, relational problems, existential and spiritual issues.

My approach to treatment is fundamentally grounded in a psychodynamic approach.
I see adolescents and adults for psychotherapy, consultation, and assessment. I also see younger patients for psychological testing and assessment. My therapeutic work is guided by the idea that psychological distress is often related to habitual ways of perceiving and interacting with the world--ways that have protected and helped in the past, but now get in the way of living a more satisfying, enjoyable, and meaningful life. I am practical but also value thoroughness and depth. Whether it is something quite specific or a vague feeling that something is wrong, I would love to be in your corner.

My goal as a clinician is to develop a safe, honest, trusting relationship so that my clients can explore all parts of themselves without judgement. I use evidence based practices and draw on the therapeutic relationship to help my clients feel seen, heard, and understood in ways that can offer healing. My hope is to help my clients enjoy the healthy and nurturing relationships they are seeking, and to live a more whole, purposeful, and satisfying life. I work well with individuals and couples who are looking to get to the root of their challenges, and move past managing symptoms.

A good match between therapist and client is vital to successful therapy. I know from experience that finding a therapist can be a major challenge. I offer a brief, no fee consultation before booking your first session so you can help determine if we are a good fit. I work primarily with couples who are struggling with their relationships, I am passionate about couple therapy and there’s nothing quite like witnessing two people re-connect and fall in love again. I am trained in Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy and am currently working on certification.

Taking the steps to engage in therapy is brave and requires a lot of courage. Opening up to a stranger in an effort to create a healthier future is no small feat, and I am impressed to know you, whoever you are! My therapeutic philosophy revolves around honoring the incredible self-compassion that it requires to be vulnerable with a therapist. I value individual autonomy and strive to create a space where you feel heard and empowered. I commit to showing up with curiosity and compassion with the intent to help equip you with the everyday bravery it takes to be human.

I am looking to collaborate with clients who feel disconnected from their lives, their relationships and their bodies in order to restore a regulated nervous system. Using both cognitive tools and creative interviewing I want to assist people who are hoping to hone their communication, to recover from dysfunctional family conditioning and connect with their most resilient selves. I am a trauma-informed therapist who has experience working with complex diagnoses, PTSD, chronic illness, anxiety and depression. My emphasis is helping my clients connect with and discover their own self-awareness, resilience and strength.

My therapeutic style is one of warmth and attunement. I provide a safe space for people to explore their inner world, heal past wounds, and discover ways to live with self-compassion and authenticity. I specialize in Somatic Psychotherapy and utilize an eclectic, person-centered approach because I believe effective therapy needs to be both individualized and collaborative. Through mindful inquiry we explore the limiting beliefs that interfere with feeling whole and uncover ways to achieve more fulfillment, meaning, and joy in one’s life.

Life can be wonderful, but often comes with many surprisingly hard twists and turns (e.g., marriage, divorce, adolescence, relocating, mid-life, crises and loss). Changes in health and chronic medical issues can be among the most difficult as they can be lasting, painful, and with serious consequences. Sometimes you need someone trustworthy, knowledgable and caring to walk you through some of the hardest times and I would be honored to do so.

Do you feel alone and unbalanced, like you’re spread thin without relief in sight? Do you feel guilty for not feeling the way you “should”? Have you lost hope? Stress and despair around issues such as pregnancy loss, infertility, pregnancy complications, birth trauma, unplanned pregnancies, postpartum anxiety and depression and the transition to parenthood often go unaddressed, leaving women and their families feeling disjointed and alone. It's time to break the silence and reclaim the hope you deserve. Your story is unique and warrants individualized attention as you work to rebuild in a safe, supportive environment.

Offering virtual sessions in California, Nevada, Oregon, and Utah. Trauma can take its toll; it can even feel unspeakable. If you have survived something that has caused you pain, you deserve to heal and release what has been trapped inside of you, without fear of judgment. There is no "right" or "wrong" way to recover; everyone is unique. All of the "marks" of trauma you notice in yourself hold wisdom to offer, in terms of understanding how you managed to stay alive and survive this whole time. It’s not about looking for “what’s wrong” with you; it’s about understanding what’s happened to you and taking your power back.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
