Utilizing different therapeutic techniques, such as dialectical behavior therapy, art therapy, and mindfulness, I aim to help younger folks articulate things they may not otherwise have the words to say.
We are collectively facing such challenging times, so why go it alone? Whether it is you or your child in need of support, I'd like to be there for you. I specialize in working with adolescents to young adults, ages ranging from about fifteen to about twenty five - but am of course open to working with those outside of this age range. I currently have the most availability earlier in the day, and aim to accommodate college-age individuals with this time. Emerging adulthood is full of ups and downs - I'm here so that you do not have to walk that road alone.

Safe place is enhanced through creative art therapy.
."I belong, therefore I am." The sense of belonging has often been wounded, damaged or undeveloped. Initially in our family, later in school, with friends and at work. Through the process of exploration and self-searching, we can begin to let ourselves go. When we are kind, and less consumed by our own ego; the darkness of depression and anxiety have less of a hold and we can find freedom.

I provide art therapy, psychotherapy, and trauma therapy. Services are personalized in a compassionate supportive environment that encourages curiosity. Art-making is always optional, I also integrate sensory-based approaches and talk therapy informed by the wisdom of the body. These engage the parts of the brain that develop pre-verbally. Sessions include choices and collaboration for you to co-create the best fit for your needs. We all get stuck sometimes. When clients are stuck, I offer a couple of paths or ways to begin. Sessions occur at my art studio located at the new Compass Art Center in downtown Kensginton.

Through art making, counseling, and cutting edge eye movement therapy treatments, I help individuals resolve problematic thoughts and behaviors and find relief from overwhelming physical sensations associated with difficult or adverse experiences.
Trauma isn’t what happens to us. It’s what happens inside of us. If I have learned anything from my own pain, my clients' pain, and the failures of our current system of mental health treatment, it’s that we are constantly misunderstanding the role of traumatic experience. Together we will find a therapeutic approach that works for you and your unique experience. In order to create lasting change in our lives, we need more from therapy than a verbal exchange. Over the last ten years, I have studied and employed a variety of experiential methods to address the root causes of trauma and help individuals invite lasting personal growth.

In a session together we will integrate hands-on art making, talk therapy, and holistic healing, to create a nurturing environment that encourages creative expression and builds a strong connection.
Some of the most important things that happen in our lives can't be put into words. Changes in emotions, thoughts, or daily life—feeling sad, anxious, tired, difficulty focusing, appetite or sleep changes, loneliness, mood swings, and/or hopelessness—can become overwhelming over time. Envision a safe space where emotions can surface, inviting exploration. Here, they are not just acknowledged but heard, understood, and perhaps even befriended. Creative Arts therapy involves the mind, body, and spirit in different ways than just talking. These ways lead to an emotional connection to the full range of human experience.

Adults, Teens, and Children in need of counseling benefit from Creative Arts Therapy, as do families, and couples. I offer the optional use of Creative Arts to help clients gain a much needed perspective to assist them in their healing. Words, alone, cannot fully express your feelings. The creative arts can provide a potent "language" for expression and requires no previous art making experience. Paint, college, clay, mask-making, and creative writing help clients express, understand, and transform their feelings into allies for healing. Art Therapy has been designated as a mind-body approach by the National Institute of Health.

I support caretakers, empaths, creatives, those suffering from PTSD, ADHD anxiety, depression, phobias, addiction, sleep issues and lack of direction. Accessing inner wisdom and empowerment provides a place to heal old wounds from a place of strength. I help others experience a bigger perspective: this in turn, helps them to know they are not their stories.

I am a Mental Health Counselor with an empathic demeanor allowing others to feel comfortable. I am educated in cognitive behavioral therapy, evidence-based programs focused on social emotional learning and play therapy. I have experience working with children and adolescents, parents, and adults. As a therapist I practice psychoanalytic orientation, finding the “root of the problem”. I also practice the importance of living in the now, empowering clients to focus on their strengths.

Our deepest wounds are beyond words. So are our deepest strengths. When fear, anger, and grief run high, verbal methods aren't enough. Now more than ever, there is a need to repair deep injuries and draw from deep strength. You need a healer who will help you mend from (not cope with) generations of pain - someone who can help you access resources you didn't know you have to make breakthroughs you didn't know were possible. Now more than ever, you're hoping for someone who can go into dark places with you and help you find your light - someone who advocates for you at your worst and brings out your very best.

Art Therapy

How does art therapy work?

The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?

Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?

The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?

Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
