Jean had the opportunity to work at the forensic unit, domestic violence shelter, addiction facility, and as a clinical program director for an adolescent facility. She values learning from my clients as well as sharing the knowledge.

I make difficult concepts simple using humor, story-telling & analogies. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to address the thoughts, feelings, beliefs and actions which may be obstacles to getting where you would like to be. I also rely heavily on Positive Psychology, which uses a strength-based approach (rather than a focus on problems). When working with Traumatic events, I use Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).

My approach to helping is based on my client's perspective rather than my own. I view counseling as a highly personal and subjective experience, where developing an empathic, connected and trusting relationship is imperative; it is through the safety of this connection that clients can work toward positive change. While I have had extensive experience working with a wide variety of clients, my specializations include women's issues (including domestic violence and trauma), relationships, GLBTQI issues, pregnancy/infertitility issues, internet addiction and couples work.

Often we withdraw when we don't feel well, even when longing for connection. Sometimes we are coping w/a medical condition, in addition to trauma, chronic pain or fatigue.
