Have you ever told anyone your story? Really told it? My practice is centered on healing from childhood wounds. I hold space for my clients to process through their childhood trauma, abuse, and other adverse childhood experiences that have impacted their lives; then and now. As an adult child-survivor myself, I hold a deep passion and connection with adult child survivors who have made the vulnerable choice to heal. My clients and beloved ones would describe me as a “soft place to land”. I believe my own childhood experiences and healing journey, has influenced that.

Self-acceptance can help you make lasting changes in your life. I offer insight, a sense of humor, and a safe and supportive place to experience yourself (and your partner) with more compassion and self understanding. Together we can explore issues of self-image, intimacy, work satisfaction, creativity, and spirituality. Couples are also welcome. My work as a psychotherapist incorporates certain guiding beliefs: 1) Our world view results from our childhood experiences; this world view greatly affects our current lifestyle, self-image and interaction with others; 2) Our ability to change largely depends on making this world view conscious, so

I use trauma therapy with South Asian Americans who come from insular communities and have survived cultural shame, violence, and adversity.
Calling all South Asian Misfits who feel like they don't belong: Being yourself does not make you "less" of a South Asian; it makes you a more genuine one. If you have been ever labeled the "Black sheep" of your community or family, been told that you are "Too South Asian", or "Not South Asian enough", you belong right here! That's why I go by "The Bad Indian Therapist", because as someone who was raised Indian and Catholic, I've also been called these things too. I'm here to tell you that sometimes it's OK to be "bad", and even if we did everything right, we're still going to make mistakes. So, let's be "bad" together!

As an IFS Level 1 trained therapist and a Certified Daring Way Facilitator, I integrate Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Brené Brown's work and research into my practice along with other evidence-based and trauma-informed practices, directly addressing underlying issues and moving towards healing.
You are determined, smart and used to navigating challenges but this feels different. Normally you could handle it yourself or push the worry away but bigger questions are arising and you are left feeling overwhelmed, lost in ambivalence, stressed, anxious and not sure what can help. You feel like your dreams and what you have worked for are slipping away and it's impacting your life & relationships. This may be triggering lots of painful or scary feelings, memories from your past, not feeling like yourself or the idea that now is the time to make real change and get help.

Do you want a therapist who understands your unique experiences and can guide you toward a more fulfilling and authentic life? Rejecting a "one-size-fits-all" approach, I have experience working with diverse issues—trauma, mood disorders, relationship or family of origin conflict, first-gen struggles, LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, and alternative lifestyle support.
Are you motivated and looking for change? Maybe you're seeking to identify patterns of behavior that might stem from childhood and are ready to make some changes. My ideal client is someone like you—driven to improve their life, but facing challenges along the way. You might be a first-gen individual, a member of the BIPOC or LGBTQIA+ communities, or someone who lives an alternative lifestyle. Your needs could range from healing past traumas to navigating relationship conflicts, and your goals might include building healthier relationships, achieving emotional well-being, or embracing your identity.

I work with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, self-criticism, relationship problems, symptoms of complex trauma, or difficulty during life transitions. When these feelings are acute it can feel unbearable and all we want is some relief. I work with people to address uncomfortable symptoms in the present, while also exploring their meaning and source including connections with earlier life experiences. We then look to the future and what is trying to emerge from you. I work well with people who have a desire to know themselves in a deeper way and to feel more connected to soul and life.

Feeling scared and ashamed of distressing thoughts, being stuck in repetitive behaviors that feel impossible to stop, avoidance of things that used to matter because of intense fear, frequent conflict with loved ones over fears being ‘real’ - these are all things that clients with OCD and Anxiety related disorders report. People who struggle with these issues express feeling stuck and afraid of their worst fears coming true while also trying to manage pressure from life obligations and loved ones.

Brittany M. Ramirez is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California who has been practicing since 2013. Brittany helps people figure this "thing" out we call life. As she became a therapist working with clients, it became apparent that what Brittany does is help people with what she believes to be the human experience. So, that's what Brittany unofficially calls herself now: "the human experience therapist. " We all go through challenges, and they look different as we get older, but they never stop.

I have expertise working with: stress + anxiety, depression, social anxiety, grief + loss, relationship problems, LGBTQ+ issues, high net worth clients, "difficult" personalities, trauma, and emotional problems of all kinds.
Accepting new patients (Updated: 5/24). You've been feeling anxious, depressed, burnt out, frustrated, or unfulfilled. By now, you've tried everything you can think of to solve your problems. You may have been let down by your friends, your family, or even other therapists and are wondering how I could possibly help you. Don't worry. I won't make false promises and don't offer my clients trendy "fad" therapies; but, with some hard work, I'll help you begin the process of turning things around.

Feeling overwhelmed? Disempowered? Lost? How we respond to life's challenges is often determined by the tools and perspectives we have at our disposal. Sometimes, particularly when we find ourselves stuck and feeling low, it is helpful to call on the support of a mental health therapist to empower us with the insights and coping skills necessary to navigate through those challenges. In my work, I support teens, young adults, and adults — all experiencing a broad range of mental health concerns — seeking to unpack, make sense of, and find meaningful ways to address the underlying issues contributing to their current struggles.

The constant anxiety, worry, and overwhelm is too much. You're tired of feeling unhappy and unfulfilled in your life and relationships and grieving what you thought life should have been. You want to feel satisfaction, confidence, and peace. You want to stop trying to meet everyone else's endless expectations. This is good news, it means you're ready to make change.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
