I generally work with clients experiencing difficulties with transitions (school, career, etc), becoming a Mother/Parent and all the related, often unspoken changes that accompany this new role, relationship issues, issues of identity (ethnic, sexual), sexual abuse, obtaining & maintaining greater independence from parents or spouse, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, social fears, addiction, diversity, divorce, parenting, communication skills, spirituality, growing as a therapist, health & fitness and self development.

The HELP for Parents Network passionately serves the emotional needs of adults, children, couples and families, who are struggling to cope with the demands of their everyday life. Our mental health counseling services are tailored to the needs of the individual client or family. We meet people where they are and help them to reach their full potential, regardless of their challenges. We offer sessions in the office, online via video or chat and in some cases we can meet in your home. Our evaluations are not covered by insurance. We will be happy to provide you with a Superbill to present to your insurance company for reimbursement.

My calling is to serve children and adults who deal with a variety of emotional and behavioral imbalances due to psychological trauma or other stressors. As a trauma and DBT-certified therapist, I work with my clients toward the restoration of their emotional wellness by integrating aspects of trauma-focused cognitive behavioral (CBT), and dialectical behavior therapies (DBT), as well as ART therapy, play therapy, and mind-body practices. I am a Latina immigrant, a native Spanish speaker, and a naturalized United States Citizen since 1987. After learning English, I graduated from The University of Georgia, undergraduate and graduate school, with the highest academic honors. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 35 years of education and practical experience which are the foundation of my clinical practice.

Melinda’s person-centered approach to trauma recovery honors the strength and resilience of survivors. She views her clients as experts of their experiences and believes in the body’s natural capacity to heal from trauma & stress-related conditions. She uses approaches including EMDR and clinical hypnosis to ensure her clients remain present and grounded throughout the therapeutic session. Traumatic memory is painlessly reprocessed and stored in the “done file.” Negative thoughts, behaviors, and emotions are eliminated since they are no longer necessary for survival. What remains is increased presence, self-compassion and growth.
