I treat clients from a trauma informed perspective. If it is addiction issues (substance or process) anxiety, depression or other mood disorders, so much of what informs these maladies is developmental or relational trauma. Big T or shock trauma can bring on many underlying issues that have been dormant. I work with clients to carefully assess their history and treatment goals. I use CBT, Psychodynamics, EMDR and other trauma treatment modalities to effectively resolve the inner disturbance.

I really enjoy working with individuals and couples. I help clients become more aware of their body sensations and use that language to identify feelings and thoughts. This allows clients to connect with their full internal experience. Clients find this extremely helpful, especially those who have suffered traumatic incidents or long-term traumas. I am gentle and supportive in my work and use deep emotional exploration of past and present mixed with a body-based mindful approach to move clients toward healing. I am EFT informed when it comes to couples work. Couples find me grounding, fair, and supportive.

Do you struggle with low self-worth, addiction, or intrusive thoughts? EMDR helps to process trauma, negative self-talk, reduces cravings, and allows you to live your life with more ease and regulation. I work with adults and teens to relieve symptoms of PTSD, OCD, addiction, and insomnia. I utilize internal family systems/ego-state parts work and Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy as needed. Throughout the healing process, you will notice increased self-trust and a release of old coping strategies. You deserve to live life fully, free from the distraction and pain of old wounds.

My focus is with men’s issues around masculinity, purpose, codependency, anger, self-esteem, parenting and relationships. I aim to provide a safe space for support, collaboration, and guidance on how to improve your relationship with yourself, because I believe that all of our relationships—whether it be with a partner, family, friends, work, sex, drugs, your phone, food, etc.—are a reflection of our relationship with ourselves. A deeper connection with yourself is a requirement for improving your relationship with others and building a more meaningful life.

Too often in our everyday lives we use language such as "that's good enough" or "I guess that'll do." Commonly, these phrases are reflective of a pattern of settling for just getting by. I believe we can achieve more than just the "good enough" in our careers, our passions, our relationships, and our lives. It's time to stop going through the motions and selling yourself short. You don't have to settle for fine.

I have had many years of gratifying experience in deeply engaging with the people I work with, and training and supervising doctoral students and therapists (many on this site have been my students!). Discovering what has been causing personal distress, worry, loneliness, or disappointment is what transforms life. These underlying stresses can cause problems with relationship, career, mood, or just general feelings of dissatisfaction. The personal growth that blooms in the therapy opens doors inside and out, and creates the rich opportunities and experiences we all want in life.

My ideal client is aware that some primary positive feeling has changed. The positive feeling has suddenly, or over time, become negative and painful. Because of this change, he or she may have reluctantly given up on a long term goal, or may be in the midsts of a divorce where there was once loving contentment that has disappeared. Sometimes the pain is so severe that the Client considers ending his or her life. No matter what the circumstance, this Client is longing for relief from the pain. The Client needs a Therapist who can, incrementally over time, help to alleviate the pain and begin a more positive approach to living life.

Personally, I have suffered the consequences of trauma, severe mental illness and a debilitating addiction. Professionally, I have a master’s degree in Clinical Psychology, am a certified Suicide Prevention Counselor, and a Psychological First Aid Responder. But honestly, none of my life’s challenges I’ve overcome or clinical credentials I’ve accrued amount to a pile of crap unless you think I care about you, listen to you, validate you and your experiences, and are truly there for you—have your back.

The priority of my practice is to care for a client’s needs as they unfold. With a collaborative, non-judgmental approach, I assist through stages of growth toward fulfillment and well-being. Experience has taught me to treat symptoms with curiosity, and by seeing their purpose we may integrate their power. Psychologist James Hollis wrote, "It is in the swamplands where soul is fashioned and forged, where we encounter not only the gravitas of life, but its purpose, its dignity and its deepest meaning."

Infidelity Therapists

How does therapy for infidelity work?

A skilled infidelity therapist will provide a safe space for clients to communicate their feelings and concerns. The goal is to be completely honest about what led to the cheating and how it has affected the entire family to prevent it from recurring in the future. The therapist will help the clients work on rebuilding mutual trust and respect and developing better communication and conflict-resolution skills. If the goal is to remain a couple, clients will learn the “danger signs” for their specific relationship, and they will make a renewed commitment to be faithful.

How long does therapy for infidelity take?

Recovery from infidelity can take time, and it can vary from person to person. Generally, a therapist will want to see the clients at least once a week for around six months. Then the sessions can be arranged as needed, depending on the clients’ individual needs. While therapy may end or shift to an as-needed basis, it can take up to two years or more for some clients to fully recover from infidelity.

How does therapy help the partner who was cheated on?

When a client discovers their partner’s infidelity, their trust in the relationship and in the life they had together may be shattered. They often experience mental health symptoms, such as anxiety, depression, grief, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). They don’t always want to stay in the relationship; they may feel ambivalent or may even want to leave. Therapy gives these clients a safe and healthy way to communicate all of their complicated emotions and concerns.

How does therapy help the partner who committed infidelity?

Infidelity often occurs when one or both partners’ emotional needs are not being met in the relationship. Therapy can help this client understand why they cheated and figure out how to address those unmet needs without resorting to infidelity in the future. This can lessen (but not entirely eliminate) the risk of repeated infidelity. Clients who cheat may also feel intense guilt about deceiving their partners, a sentiment that they can work through in therapy.
