We rely on modern therapeutic techniques that give clients the tools to understand and address their mental and emotional health. We offer individual and group therapy, but even in group counseling, our goal is to help each participant achieve personal insight. Sarasota’s premier therapist, counseling, and psychotherapy center. We believe in giving clients the tools to understand, question, and process their own emotions, thoughts, and behavior. In therapeutic terms, we rely on object relations and psychodynamic theoretical frameworks. In practice, this means that each patient is empowered to address his or her own mental health.

I utilize psychodynamic and other approaches depending upon what is appropriate for you, for the issues you present, and even for the needs of the moment.
While our outer lives may seem well organized, our inner lives are often plagued with unexpressed conflict and confusion. Those who dare to cultivate self-awareness are often surprised by its healing effects - that the process itself unlocks energy and propels one forward. It is never too late. I look forward to witnessing your transformation and discovering how your unique set of issues and ways of working come to bear in the therapeutic alliance that will be uniquely ours.

I work from a psychodynamic and relational perspective.
COVID-19 has had a significant impact on most of our lives. This pandemic has led to many losses of one kind or another, such as loss of a job, loss of your health, loss of a loved one, loss of a dream and more. You may feel hopeless, empty and without a purpose. Talking to a professional can help you find meaning and purpose in life once again. My years of experience as a psychologist and a human being have led me to believe that positive and meaningful healing and change is possible even in the darkest hour of our lives.

I integrate psychodynamic models of therapy with cognitive-behavioral for a comprehensive treatment package.
In my 35 years as a NY licensed psychologist, I have found that most people come to psychotherapy in some degree of pain, distress or anxiety. In my office patients find a climate of ease that encourages self-disclosure and a warm therapist-patient relationship. I strive to collaborate with my patients to help identify what is really troubling them so they can develop compassion for themselves while coming to terms with their circumstances.

I use psychodynamic therapy, CBT, mindfulness and life coaching to help you achieve your goals.
My practice has evolved to using only telehealth and televideo. My specialty is working with people from age 30 up on identity crises, personal reinvention, financial stressors, retirement, downsizing, dealing with feelings of loss, change, anxiety and depression. I have worked with entire families, individuals and couples. There are a lot of misunderstandings between generations and between people. I act as a communication translator to help get people to understand one another. I am licensed to practice in MA and FL but geography should not be a limit so I can work with you outside of those two states as a life coach.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
