Do you ever feel that you’re living in the past? The thoughts, memories, and dreams keep coming back? You always feel like something bad is going to happen? These are some of the affects of trauma. Others can include panic attacks, anxiety, depression, and sleep disorders. Unfortunately we can't talk (or logic) our way out of our body and brain's response to trauma, and often we leave talk therapy feeling like we're spinning our wheels. There is good news: we can help your brain and body heal from trauma so that the past can STAY in the past. Healing is possible, and I’m excited to work with you.

Wherever you find yourself personally, I'm glad you found your way here. I like to work with people who are seeking more in life. I help people to explore present and past relationships to better understand themselves and their ways of being. I join people where they are at, listening and responding with curiosity. I believe that every person is worthy of the time and attention necessary for growth and healing and that strong selves are grown in the company of compassionate others. I teach people how to foster compassion for themselves while better understanding their stories and how they have shaped life thus far.

My goal in counseling is to help individuals and couples navigate the challenges that they face in their day-to-day lives. This process often involves exploration of difficult relationships and complex human experiences. While this exploration process is important and can lead to tremendous growth and success, it can be emotionally and mentally taxing – I am here to help walk you through this process safely and efficiently. Your goals will guide our work together.

When difficulties emerge, we have a choice, an opportunity. Challenges are part of life and although we navigate most with courage and confidence, there are times we feel powerless and stuck. By exploring new strategies for understanding our difficulties, we construct a different lens for viewing hardships and subsequently discover our unique capabilities and emerge stronger and wiser. Whether you are a parent struggling with the evolving dynamic of communication with your children, or a partner grappling with the ebb and flow in one's relationship, these are our most essential opportunities for a life changing transformation.

I believe healing happens in relationship, and during therapy we are able to learn, explore, heal, and practice who and how we want to be.
I provide counseling focused on transformation. My practice is grounded in wonder and awe, and is informed by the latest neurobiology. Together we will learn about how you are stuck and then collaborate with your nervous system to advance changes you are seeking. My work is trauma-informed, anti-racist, queer/trans affirming, fat/body positive, embraces diversity of neurotypes, economic experiences, and abilities. I use Internal Family Systems (IFS) to promote cognitive, emotional, social, and behavioral transformation and unburden anxious, fear, and/or critical parts.

I'm accepting new in-person clients at Mindful Therapy Group's Fremont location on Tuesdays to Fridays. I work with adolescents and young adults. I use nontraditional approaches such as expressive arts therapy, poetry writing, and narrative therapy. I believe one of the bravest things you can do is begin to understand your story and how you came be the way you are today. So, are you a creative person who feels stuck with the rigid expectations of school or work stressors? Together, we can identify your internal strengths and what motivates you to form a path to healing and anxiety relief.

You and your partner will build and maintain boundaries in your relationship, decrease defensiveness, and create mutual appreciation and trust.
Do discussions with your partner often lead to yelling or angry silence? Do you find yourselves arguing about the same issues year after year with no resolution? Learn to restore harmony in your home with communication skills that create guardrails for safety (I sometime call them training wheels or bumper pads). When couples feel like they’re walking on eggshells, life feels exhausting. When the best of intentions devolve into disappointment, misunderstanding, and hurt feelings, it might seem like there is no way back to the romantic bond you once enjoyed. It can be done, and together we will plot that course!

Experiencing conflict that seems to have no end feels exhausting. We all find ourselves in cycles of conflict at times - with friends, family, colleagues, or even within ourselves. I help folks move out of patterns of stuck-ness, hopelessness, and helplessness and into safer, more secure relationships (with self and others).

We are born into lives that are not our choosing. Our parents, circumstances, and impactful events can define us and become the narrative of our lives. You may have reached a place where you would like to examine this, to decide who and how you want to be in the world, to align your values, interests and passions with how you live each day. Coping skills learned at a young age may no longer be serving you, and it may be time to learn new skills to support your growth and wellbeing. Together we can explore how you got here, and develop a pathway to connect with your true self.

However, I firmly believe that everyone has the potential to shape their lives in alignment with their values, goals, and passions; often we just don't know where to start. That's where I come in—I'm here to begin this journey with you, learning the tools, confidence, and emotional resilience to thrive.

While need for human connection appears to be innate, the ability to form healthy, loving relationships is learned. Some evidence suggests that the ability to form a stable relationship starts to form in infancy, in a child's earliest experiences with a caregiver who reliably meets the infant's needs for food, care, warmth, protection, stimulation, and social contact. Such relationships are not destiny, but they are theorized to establish deeply ingrained patterns of relating to others. The end of a relationship, however, is often a source of great psychological anguish.
