"What is the most important consideration when looking for a therapist? " The fit, the feel, the vibe you have with the therapist really is best way to decide if this is a good match. A good fit, you will work well together. We will work with the issues that you are currently experiencing, noticing the internal roots of conflict, and finding ways to make meaningful and purposeful shifts or changes in your life. Experiencing difficulties from depression, relationship endings, truama, abuse, addictions, let's talk. - I am now only taking cash, checks of credit card patients. Not accepting new insurance patients. Not taking couples.

You may be struggling to see and believe in the goodness of yourself and others. You desire a change in these relationships. I support my clients in finding a compassionate and just relationship with themselves and the world around them by exploring implicit and explicit material in their historical and current narratives. I engage and help clients in an emotionally-focused and somatically-present space. We take our biggest steps to healing when we feel cared for, loved, and heard.

My practice is about creating space... a relational space to be, to reflect, to see, to heal, and imagine anew. Life can often feel overwhelming or bring feelings of hopelessness, but our inner resources are often more than we are able to imagine in the moment of our distress. New strength and connection can be found in parts of yourself that have been cut off or neglected for various reasons. Often we need the presence of someone, like a therapist, who has the potential to reflect back who we are being and what we might be neglecting, in order to see ourselves more clearly and engage life and relationships more fully.

I believe that meeting people where they are in life, the inherent strength that every client possesses, and a strong therapeutic relationship are the most important aspects of therapy. I work with people seeking help with healing from trauma, who are experiencing dissociation, who are trans/gender non-conforming, who have queer identities, who are military or military families, and anyone else who wants to work through their anxiety, depression, or other emotional difficulties. I believe in body positivity/neutrality, sex positivity, and anti-racism/sexism. I'm offering online therapy in Washington State.

Dissociative Disorders (DID) Therapists

How does therapy for dissociative disorders work?

Dissociation may be triggered by stress or other upsetting circumstances, and therapy can address the traumatic events at the core of an individual’s dissociation. Understanding why a person may dissociate can help the therapist and the individual come up with alternative methods of coping. A person with a dissociative disorder may get stuck on negative thinking, for example, and treatment like Cognitive behavioral therapy is a gold standard for breaking such thinking. And dialectical behavior therapy, for example, can help a person manage their anguish through better emotion regulation.

Which therapies are best for dissociative disorders?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, schema therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful memories and past traumas. These therapies work to integrate an individual's different identities into one person.

Are there specific medications for dissociation?

There are no specific medications prescribed for dissociative disorders. However, psychosis, depression, anxiety, and/or panic often co-occur in dissociative disorders. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for any accompanying symptom—which may include antipsychotics like aripiprazole, antidepressants like selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or anti-anxiety drugs like benzodiazepines.

How often and how long are therapy sessions?

Like any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. There are still other patients, especially those who have co-occurring conditions like depression and anxiety, who may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months.
