My style is rooted in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, which involves learning skills and new perspectives to help you pursue a satisfying life while accepting the presence of difficult thoughts and feelings.
You’re feeling disconnected from yourself or the people around you. Maybe you’re feeling stuck in life and can’t find the energy to change things up. Or maybe you’re overwhelmed by thoughts or feelings that push you around or keep you from doing what you want to be doing. I'd like to help out. Clients often come to see me for help with different forms of anxiety and depression, relationship difficulties, navigating a major transition or wanting to explore their identity. I also support individuals and relationship partners in traditional and non-traditional relationships, and specialize in helping people navigating polyamory.

I draw from mindfulness & acceptance traditions and attachment, shame-resilience, and self-compassion theories.
I am licensed clinical psychologist and yoga teacher. I work with adults who are dealing with stressors or going through transitions. I have expertise in working with individuals who have experienced childhood and adult trauma and specialize in somatically-integrative care. I believe that each person is inherently resilient. I see therapy as a tool to help you discover your resilience, change unhelpful habits, heal wounds and grow into your potential. I think a strong therapeutic relationship is necessary for effective psychotherapy. I work in a client-centered way, collaborating with you on an individualized treatment plan.

I primarily use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Exposure and Response Prevention to help people find relief.
Anxiety and OCD are my areas of expertise. While at one point your energy, thoughtfulness and persistence served you and helped you to accomplish things, perhaps you've noticed these patterns and behaviors take on a life of their own. Now you might be more fearful, doubtful, and engaging in avoidance. What used to bring you joy is now being perceived as a chore or a threat. You want peace of mind and freedom to enjoy what's right in front of you without being consumed by all the what ifs and other worst case scenarios. You recognize that the anxiety that used to serve you is now being used against you and you're tired of it.

I believe that every individual is unique. We all come from different backgrounds, and we all do not necessarily have the same diagnoses or issues. Therefore, a counseling approach that is effective for one individual may not be effective for another. As a result, I tend to combine multiple theoretical perspectives such as Experiential, Acceptance and Commitment, Person-centered, and Cognitive Behavioral therapy. I enjoy working and helping others grow to their full potential. I want to be able to provide a safe space and trust to each individual that I work with in order to accomplish the goals that they set for themselves.

I often incorporate Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help clients create healthy relationships with their thoughts and emotions and begin living according to their values.
Life can be overwhelming, and it's in those moments that our thoughts race and emotions heighten. While life's challenges are unavoidable, the right tools can enable us to do more than survive the day. Learning how to process life's ups and down and live in the present helps us adapt to whatever comes our way.

I work from a strengths-based perspective and incorporate pieces of DBT (for dialectical thought & behavior), CBT (for connecting thoughts and actions and challenging them), MI (for meeting you where you are at and rolling with you), and ACT (for understanding how to separate thoughts from self & discern core values).
Reaching out for support can be daunting and intimidating and I want to help you feel as comfortable as possible throughout the process. I want you to feel comfortable asking questions and not worrying if you are doing something right or wrong or if it's too soon or too late to ask any questions. I strive to be empathetic and understanding of people and the ways we show up every day. No judgments, no dumb questions...just non-judgmental support because that’s what we all deserve.

In addition to psychoanalytic therapy, I have received specialized training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), and Somatic Experiencing.
People often engage with therapy when life feels out of balance: there’s a sadness or disconnectedness they can’t shake, or a mind so active it seems impossible to slow down; there are problems with romantic or sexual desire; there are questions about who one is, what one wants, or even how to want in the first place. My approach to therapy is primarily psychoanalytic. I listen closely to language, helping people hear and understand themselves in radically new ways. I also work to help people discover more intentional and effective modes of relating — to thought, emotion, physiology, and other people.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?

The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?

Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?

A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
