I work individually with children, adolescents and adults on a variety of stressors. Sessions can include, emotional release techniques, shifting ways of thinking that get in the way, and practices of learning how to live in the present moment. I also work with families and couples on goals such as, but not limited to: conflict, communication, parenting or intimacy. I assess the family's relational dynamics, and come up with a plan to move the couple/family toward their goals.

Mindfulness-Centered Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy are the most effective approaches to mental health.
When everything falls apart you are not alone. Often reaching out for help can be the first step in renewing, replenishing, and revitalizing your life. Psychotherapy is one way to gain the strength and support you need. Many of us suffer quietly with feelings of hopelessness and loss. Therapy can bring life back into focus and helps us regain our sense of balance.

Are you overwhelmed by life’s struggles, trauma, relationship or attachment issues? Maybe you have been wondering about autism or ADHD as a potential diagnosis? Do you have questions about gender or sexuality, and a general need to examine where you exist within an increasingly challenging society and how you are impacted by it? These are the issues that I enjoy navigating with my clients as we find a new, unmasked, comfortable way of living freely. If you are hurting and do not know where to start I can help. If you feel that you are at the end, we can find a new beginning.

I believe your well being is all about you - your progress, your presence, your potential, and your peace. The pace of life can be hectic and often disorienting even for the healthiest person. We all bump up against obstacles and events that cause us to pause, reflect and assess the road we are traveling. Sometimes the moment is brief. At other times it is protracted and complicated. I'm here to explore life's turns and detours so that, together, we may restore these moments for a useful purpose.

I utilize an integrative approach, pulling from modalities such as CBT, DBT, Relational Therapy, and Attachment-Based Therapy.
Do you find that there are unhelpful patterns in your life that you keep repeating? Maybe it's multiple unhealthy relationships, or self-sabotaging behaviors. Do you struggle with an unrelenting inner critic that makes every perceived failure feel catastrophic? Perhaps you're in the midst of a big change or transition in your life and you're struggling to adjust. You're most likely looking for a therapist who is warm and compassionate, who understands your specific struggle, and is able to help you make sense of the swarm of thoughts circling in your head.

You may feel stuck in stress, sadness, trauma, numbness, or isolation. Perhaps you struggle to maintain relationships, or find yourself in a cycle of unhealthy ones. You may question your own worth and struggle to communicate your thoughts and feelings with those in your life. Whatever your struggles, you are hoping for more peace of mind, connection, confidence, and compassion. Just like our bodies heal from scrapes and bruises, we are also built to heal emotionally and mentally. Counseling is a great option for working toward these goals.

As you transition from childhood to adulthood it can feel incredibly overwhelming, especially for many people with ADHD or other neurodivergence. Navigating school, anxiety, family relationships, friendships, trauma, and all the other stressors that life throws at you can feel impossible to take on alone. Adding in the stressors that can come with finding your true identity or navigating difficulties with attention can make it even harder. Maybe you're a teen trying to navigate the social stressors that come with this stage of life, or a young adult trying to make your way in the world.

Therapy is a place where you can come as you are, process life's challenges, relationship struggles, seasons of doubt, feeling stuck or sad, anger, or maybe even ambivalence. In this space we can walk together through past trauma, areas of hurt or betrayal, and life transitions to pursue healing, restoration, and authenticity. Together we can notice attachment wounds and past events that may be continuing to shape your narrative and work toward interpersonal, inner growth and acceptance. Healing takes work and having support as you wade through those deep waters allows us to face fear and pain with bravery and create resilience.

Welcome! I am so glad that you’ve made it here. Should you be reading this, you may currently be experiencing anxiety, sadness, loneliness, loss, or other overwhelming emotions. As humans who experience pain, we often work so hard to avoid those painful emotions, which often leads to greater distress and feelings of living inauthentically. I work with individuals to acknowledge their emotions, to come to a greater understanding of their emotional experience, and to navigate paths towards healing and growth. You are very worthy of this pursuit.

I can use three evidence-based practices CBT+ (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for children), Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Common Elements Treatment Approach (CBT for adults).
About 1 out of 7 youth in the U.S. have a treatable mental health disorder. If you are a parent who is struggling to support your child or teen, it is not too late to reach out for help. Maybe you have noticed your child being more distant or jumpy. Maybe you have seen a change in how they spend their time, or their grades are slipping. Many families have found it difficult to adjust during the pandemic. Helping children and families get back to or accept their new "normal" is what I'm good at.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) Therapists

How does cognitive behavioral therapy work?

Cognitive behavioral therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophizing or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.

When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioral therapy?

It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioral therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.

How can I find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else?

To find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioral therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.

Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?

CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
