Some areas of focus in therapy: depression and anxiety, stress reduction, relationship problems, self esteem, sexual abuse, domestic violence, marital problems, behavioral problems in children, ADD & ADHD, parenting.
There are times in our lives that sometimes we just need a listening ear. There are other times when life comes at you fast with experiences and challenges that can be difficult to face alone. I am 100% committed to helping you find that extra help you need. My goal is to provide a safe, non-judgmental and compassionate place for you to feel comfortable in sharing and expressing yourself.

Having ADHD in a world that favors able-minded folks is challenging and tends to lead to trauma, especially if it wasn't diagnosed in childhood.
As a therapist, it is my mission to help you live a joyful, vibrant life, even if you are facing life circumstances or mental health issues that are less than ideal. I specialize in helping individuals and couples, and have experience helping with compulsive sexual behavior, ADHD/ADD, depression, OCD, anxiety, and/or PTSD resulting from abusive situations. I also help couples who feel as though they no longer "connect" or who don't feel as close as they once felt. I believe you have the strength to reach your goals, and lead a joyful life.

I have work with teens and adults, and my focuses are: Healing from trauma and shame, whether from childhood or from societal oppression; Intersectional identity development, especially for multiply-marginalized people; Neurodiversity, particularly autism and ADHD; Relationship building & relational skills; Eating disorders- inclusive of those related to NDs.
www.paradoxtherapy.com/lauree. It's difficult to find a therapist, especially if you’re a multiply-marginalized individual who must cope with not just day to day stressors, but also the stressors of living within systems of oppression against multiple parts of your identity. If you’re in that situation, you may wish to find a therapist with an amount of lived experience, if only to lessen the burden of “explaining” how these systems affect you, and I’m passionate about helping people like you receive services that will more deeply understand the impacts of your environment on you, even if we do not have the exact same identities.

About me: I specialize in anxiety management, ADHD resiliency, burnout, work-related issues, depression, and more. About you: You're a badass - yet you don't always believe it. The pressure to perform can be exhausting + the cycle of negative self talk often makes simple mistakes feel catastrophic. You're good at being there for others, but when it comes to yourself - it's hard to ask for help. Here's the thing: no one gets through this world alone. My mission is to meet you where you are in your healing journey, and to do my part in building the necessary rapport for us to do our best work, together.

I specialize in ADHD, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, and academic, career and LGBTQIA+ related issues.
As kids, we were told that if we did everything right, we would have a life to be proud of. As adults, many of us are wondering if it all was just a fairy tale. We got the job, but now life is just wash-rinse-repeat; we’re bored. A change in job could help, but what if I told you that we as adults sometimes forget to invest in ourselves, outside of our career…and thus, we forget who we were before we got the degree; before we got the job. We forget we were once multidimensional creatures with other amazing facets than our job title. I want to help you get back to that version of yourself. Let’s help you find the magic in life again.

When we make time to listen to our bodies and emotions, we begin to reconnect with our inherent wisdom. We don't lose touch with this wisdom on our own. Trauma, unhealed wounds, and oppressive systems disconnect us from our wisdom and intuition, and impact our ability to feel at ease. You and your body carry so much, from the grief and resilience of those who came before you, to the stress of everyday life, and each story of pain, joy, and survival that has led you to seek care. It is normal to experience overwhelm, anxiety, disruption, and depression while carrying so much. You weren't meant to carry it all on your own.

Complicated relationships or past abuse can leave us feeling anxious, depressed, and unsure of ourselves. Maybe you're fed up with feeling on-edge, stuck, or like your past is interfering with your life today. Maybe you feel guilty that you're not able to show up for your friends, family, or significant other the way you'd like. Maybe you don't even remember a time when things didn’t feel this way. But a few things are certain: you’re ready for things to change. You’re ready to heal. And most of all: you’re ready to enjoy your relationships and your life.

I am currently accepting new clients, however I am prioritizing limited availability to specific clients. While gender and gender identities are constant themes in the transgender community, I am currently prioritizing working with transgender clients who have been actively transitioning for a number of years, and are engaged and connected with the transgender community. I am looking to work with first generation American transgender clients, indigenous and/or transgender people of color, and transgender teens.

Life can be challenging and stressful. Therapy is a place where you safely address and process through your internal responses to life’s obstacles. If you feel out of touch with your authentic self, problems can seem insurmountable. I work with individuals to explore and develop insight around your own thought patterns and responses to life events. We work together to overcome those things that are stopping you from having a full life and bring you into alignment with your authentic self.

ADHD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?

You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?

Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

Are there specific medications for ADHD?

Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?

It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
