I am not currently accepting new clients. Seeking a new therapist can be overwhelming and even intimidating but I believe everyone is the expert on their own life. I enjoy working with individuals who are totally new to counseling and with people who have had bad experiences with therapy in the past. Life seems to have gotten harder than ever over the last few years. It's hard to know who to turn to when mood issues, depression, anxiety or PTSD hijack your life. As a board-certified, licensed clinical psychologist, I've spent nearly 15 years helping people recover from challenging mental health conditions. I've dedicated my career to help individuals of all genders recover from trauma. As an evidence-based mental health treatment expert, I also specialize in treating serious cases of depression, anxiety and OCD.

On the outside it looks like you have it all together, but inside you're engaged in a constant struggle for control. Your anxiety, OCD, and/or eating disorder has taken over your life. You find yourself in a constant loop of feeling worried, nervous, stressed and at times not good enough, thin enough, or smart enough. You’re stuck and unable to find the relief that you crave, so you try temporary fixes. Sometimes you disconnect and avoid people and your responsibilities, sometimes you binge, sometimes you purge, and sometimes you try to use anything that will distract your mind. You find, however, that your mind just wont turn off.

I enjoy working with individuals, couples, and families. I try to offer affordable mental health counseling, because I believe that therapy should be accessible to all who need it. I also offer art therapy, play therapy, and life coaching. I want to help you to feel better--and help you to achieve the goals that matter to you. I am experienced helping people with eating disorders, mood disorders (depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder), trauma, and PTSD. Adoption and blended family problems are also close to my heart and I enjoy helping others in these areas. I am Star Behavioral Health Tier 2 trained and have lived the military life as a spouse of a career Marine. I work with those aged 5 and older. Hi there! My name is Dr. Jess Ribeiro. I’m a clinical psychologist and university professor with over 15 years of clinical, research, and teaching experience licensed in NC, FL, and NJ. I specialize in the treatment of depression, eating disorders, and anxiety. In my practice, I use leading evidence-based therapies, which are treatments that are backed by decades of scientific research and shown to work. Primarily, these are cognitive-behavioral approaches (e.g., CBT) that are highly collaborative, active, and goal-oriented treatments that help people achieve desired symptom changes quickly and build more fulfilling lives.

My specialty is working with adults and teens with emotional dysregulation, self-harming behaviors and difficulty with impulsive, destructive and self-destructive behavior. I also treat trauma both in adolescents and in adults. I offer fully adherent DBT. Adherent Dialectical Behavior Therapy has the most evidence showing it to be an effective treatment for suicidal people and people with Borderline Personality Disorder and BPD traits. At this current time we are the only practice in the Tallahassee area offering full protocol, adherent DBT which means you get the treatment that works best to help you or your teen stop suffering.
