Let's discuss how parent coaching and child therapy can help to improve your relationship with your child, and give them the tools to communicate their needs effectively!.
Everyone has unique capabilities that can be used to overcome hardships. With a strengths-based approach, I value the use of trauma-informed care and consideration of the diverse backgrounds & experiences of each client. I'm passionate about helping parents to approach challenging behaviors in children from a perspective of understanding childhood developmental stages and acknowledging every child’s need for emotional safety and connection.

Parenting and caregiving for our children is one of the hardest, yet most important, roles we can have.
I work with clients from birth through adolescence, utilizing a family systems, strengths-based approach. Working from attachment theory, I believe the foundation of a child's well being stems from the caregiver-child relationship. I collaborate with and empower parents by providing them with tools they can use at home, in order for families to reap long term benefits from therapy. I have a wide array of experience working with children exhibiting symptoms related to: trauma, anxiety, anger, transitions, depression, ADHD, developmental delays, and behavioral difficulties.

As a parent and psychologist, I understand what a huge step it is to start this process and to trust someone with your child and family.
Does your child or adolescent's worry, anxiety, or sadness get in the way of their day-to-day activities? Does it feel like you're talking in circles and running into the same challenging behaviors over and over? Without a “how-to” guide, it can be exhausting and overwhelming trying to assist your child or teen on your own. Even the process of seeking professional help can be daunting. If this sounds familiar, you are not alone. As a Licensed Psychologist, I use a collaborative and strengths-based approach to help children, adolescents, and parents overcome challenges, improve relationships, and experience more joy.

Please note: Contacting Dr. Walsh does not establish a therapist-patient relationship. If this is an emergency, call 911 or go to the emergency room.

Blending psychology with spirituality, I offer tools for self-discovery, forgiveness, meditation, healthy transitions, healed relationships, and positive parenting.
We are all here to evolve into more conscious, responsible individuals. Mental health issues arise when we are out of alignment with what is happening within and around us. As we embrace and adjust to our life situations--working through our disappointments and broken expectations--our equilibrium is restored. We feel stronger and more capable to accept what is in front of us to do, with new peace, joy, and wisdom.

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
