Areas of specialization include: anxiety disorders, work/life balance, depression, grief, spirituality, and relationship issues.
I believe that stronger self-awareness better equips individuals to set goals and make choices that affirm integrity, authenticity, and wholeness. As a clinician, I hope to create a safe environment where all can come to know themselves more fully and implement practical steps to live healthier and more fulfilling lives.

I work with people on relationships, depression, anxiety, self-esteem, anger, career issues, sexuality, addiction, spirituality, and more.
I do individual and couple therapy. I am often a good fit for clients who want to integrate a spiritual perspective into therapy. By spiritual I mean living authentically, finding deep purpose, forgiving oneself and others, having compassion for yourself and others in the face of life's inevitable challenges, and seeing the sacred in the ordinary. I work with people of different faiths and those with no particular belief. I mix creativity, humor, and metaphors into therapy and encourage "daily practice for the rest of your life" to keep growth going long after therapy concludes. Check out some videos about my approach on my website.

Whether you or your teen needs help with managing depression, reducing anxiety, improving decision making, developing effective communication skills, stress management, strengthening your social life, or successfully creating lifestyle changes (from divorce/relationship strains, school changes, to parenting struggles or health issues), my personal mission is to provide hope, help, and healing to those in need. A lot of what I do is help people learn to see situations in a new way and be prepared to handle these challenges. I enjoy working with older children, middle school students, teenagers, young adults, and college-aged.

Currently accepting new clients! Therapy is not an easy process, and I know that reaching out for help is hard. Look at you - You have already taken the first step! If you struggle with depression, anxiety, trauma, self-esteem issues, or significant life changes- I'd love for you to reach out. My ultimate goal is to make therapy more approachable so that I can help you live the life you want to (and if you don't know what that is-I'll help with that too!). My office is a judgement-free zone. I can help you identify the tools towards your healing journey and encourage you to find your soul and become the best version of yourself.

I believe in therapy. It can play a vital role in coming to terms with the past, living life in the present, and anticipating the future… We cannot erase a difficult history. But we can change our relationship to our pain, and we can identify the things within our control. I believe that self-understanding is key for making healthy changes... The importance of working to understanding ourselves cannot be stressed enough.

Since attending therapy is an implicit admission of imperfections for most people, my approach to counseling is person-centered and collaborative. Once the therapeutic alliance has been established, this approach allows clients to express their emotional reactions, develop more productive ways of dealing with feelings, and increase their levels of understanding and awareness. My counseling philosophy is to provide support, education, feedback and treatment that inspires clients to successfully take appropriate actions that will assist with solving their problems. Therapist qualities that I utilize include, but are not limited to, mutual respect, authenticity, genuineness, integrity, and the ability to empathize.

Wrestling with life's issues can be challenging - especially when trying to do it alone. It can be overwhelming and/or painful attempting to navigate through the questions and uncertainties that sometimes come up. In 20+ years working with diverse populations in the helping professions, in all the stories I've heard, what typically stands out is the need to know and understand self, the things that happen to us, how it all fits together - making meaning, and how to move forward and find a sense of purpose. "And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom" - Anais Nin

Are you just getting by, saying "I'm okay" when asked how you are? It's okay to be okay, but there's so much more to well-being. Do you wake up excited for the day ahead? Are you moving towards your goals? Are you confident in your next steps or at least curious about your options? Are you organized and prepared for what's coming? If these things don't ring true for you, let me help you be the best version of yourself: focused, connected, thoughtful, and thriving.

I believe that everyone has the power to heal. Experiences of our past negatively showing up in our present, difficult relationships, loss, and unexpected/unwanted change are painful but not rare. We are left to find ourselves again, rebuild, grieve, and find a new way to live. Through healing and connection, we are able to know deep within that we will be o.k. We can find peace and power within ourselves. We can create a new story. I would be honored to help.

Spirituality Therapists

What should I expect from therapy that incorporates a focus on spirituality?

Spirituality can mean different things to different individuals, depending on their experiences, beliefs, and life histories. Some individuals focus on strengthening their belief system, while others experience spirituality in secular ways, such as through meditation, yoga, or by spending time in nature. Clients can expect a therapist to help guide and grow their spirituality through any of these techniques, encouraging the individual to cope with the challenges they face and develop strategies to build resilience and purpose to improve their outlook in life.

What are the most common treatments that include spirituality?

There are several treatments that incorporate spirituality. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) helps a person examine and reframe their negative thoughts and behaviors. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) focuses on emotional acceptance and psychological flexibility. Existential therapy is most often used to address anxiety, depression, grief, loneliness, apathy, despair, questions of identity, and feelings of purposelessness and existential dread. Transpersonal therapy focuses on a client’s spirituality and meaning in life and may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualization, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork.

Can therapy incorporating spirituality help atheistic or agnostic individuals?

Yes. For non-believers, spirituality can offer benefits including a greater sense of connection to others and to the natural world. An interest in spirituality may also spur individuals to pursue mindfulness practices, or to contemplate their purpose in life and how to achieve it.

How effective is spirituality as a therapeutic remedy?

Research suggests spirituality is generally beneficial for individuals. It is correlated with better health habits, such as less substance use, and an improved capacity to cope with stress and other mental health challenges. Increased spirituality can lead individuals to become more empathic and less materialistic, as well.
