I treat: Mood, Anxiety, and Psychotic Disorders, PTSD, Trauma Recovery, Substance Use Disorders and Dual-Diagnosis, Alcoholism and Mental Illness in Families, Chronic Pain, Grief, and Stress Management.
Eliza McKenna, LCSW, based in California, from the east coast. I'm a mom and hobby gardener and artist. I approach my practice with Humanism and strive to co-create insight and transformation with clients. I've worked on helplines, in child protection, with the seriously mentally ill, and as a psychotherapist in psychiatric clinics. In addition to private practice, I help run an Employee Assistance Program, and manage a number of employee health programs. My approach to providing therapy moves through the four noble truths. We diagnose the suffering and identify its cause.

Are you struggling with anxiety and trauma and turning towards unhealthy coping mechanisms in an attempt to manage your emotions? Now is a trying time for almost everyone, and if you have a trauma background what's coming up in the current environment may be reminiscent of the stress, isolation, and fear induced by early childhood experiences. You don't have to handle this alone, and with clinically tested techniques to regulate the mind and body, it's possible to shift from a place of disempowerment to strength.

Hello. I'm Ann Gimpel, a licensed psychologist. I believe in client-centered therapy and in crafting a safe and supportive environment for my clients. Clients experiencing life stressors such as job and relationship issues will be a great fit with my skill set. I'm also interested in addictions, chronic pain, and chronic health issues. As a cancer survivor, I've been there. Rather than being wedded to a particular theoretical approach, I will blend several to meet my clients' needs. I have background and training in cognitive behavioral, psychoanalytic, marital therapy, and client coaching, to name a few.

Do you feel like anxiety is your baseline? Are you struggling with overthinking, decision paralysis, wondering if everyone is mad at you, and not sleeping well? Feeling overwhelmed, restless, and unsatisfied and sometimes feel like it’s all too much? Do you ever wonder if life is supposed to feel like one crisis after another? Now more than ever people are feeling anxious, overwhelm and uncertain about how they are supposed to manage their relationships, careers and their lives. Pushing away your needs and not taking time for yourself can lead to long term issues for your body, mind and spirit. It doesn’t have to be this hard.

Embarking on the path of therapy is a deeply personal voyage. For individuals within the LGBTQ+ community, it is especially crucial to have a therapist who intimately understands their journey, as they grapple with unique stressors often unfamiliar to the mainstream. Navigating challenges such as discrimination, family disclosure, and the pursuit of an authentic identity in the face of societal pressures can contribute to heightened levels of depression, anxiety, substance dependency, and even thoughts of self-harm. Visit me at: www.drwade.gay/

Welcome, thanks for reading! PT has limited space so pardon the list: 1-Everyone can benefit from therapy! I don't know you or anyone you know. Who doesn't want someone to listen, accept, and not judge them? 2-Examples of your goals can be change or acceptance. I can help you find peace in whoever you decide you are or are not. 3-Struggling with identity (sexual, gender, religious, racial, immigrant, status, cultural, or something else) is common. 4-Most pain is rooted from something that needs attention. Let's look at it and respect its presence. I'll do my best to earn your trust with my life, education, and experience.

As a therapist, I know that sometimes, you may just need someone to listen and walk through a difficult season in life with you. You may find yourself in need of a safe place to explore your thoughts and feelings about dating, a significant relationship or a life transition. You may be coping with pain in ways that are self-destructive, or feeling "stuck", sad, and/or overwhelmed by worry. I offer understanding and caring, compassionate feedback. My goal is to help you tap into your own inner wisdom, so that you can heal, grow, and thrive- ultimately living a more fulfilling life.

The main reason why couples seek counseling is due to a communication breakdown that begins to dismantle an otherwise healthy relationship. Our primary need is to be understood, but if partners are using different modes of communication, there can be a disconnect. DT can provide the jump-start to help find the excitement and communication that couples experienced at the beginning of a relationship, and the common ground that can build a stronger place from which to build trust. In learning more about the roles we play, DT offers partners the opportunity to gain greater insight about themselves and about their problems in relationships.

Substance Use Therapists

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?

There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
