I hope to support you as a caregiver and your child on your journey. No matter how you got here, whether through adjustments, trauma, grief, attachment, divorce, anxiety or other mental health related challenges. I work with both caregiver and child/teen to establish realistic goals that don't lead to a perfect road but one that feels safe enough to travel. This means caregiver presence is important throughout the process as you both explore new ways of being.

After many years as a psychotherapist working with adults, I’ve learned the best therapy is whatever encourages my clients to be curious about themselves and motivated to change what they really want to change while embracing what doesn’t need to change at all. Whether you are looking to work on anxiety, stress, family or relationship issues, work problems, trauma, sleep disorders, depression, or chronic illness – psychotherapy is a process that can help, and I will be happy to join you on that journey.

Modern society requires many people to have so many roles, responsibilities, and obligations that they feel fragmented; many develop anxiety, depression, eating disorders, and other emotional problems as a result. I understand how hard it can be to live a life that sustains and honors your values without giving in to 'business as usual,' and I can help you heal the fractures.

An unbalanced inner world tends to affect your day-to-day life, relationships (familial, romantic, or platonic,) careers, and goals. This can feel life-altering when all you crave is peace. My areas of specialty are post traumatic disorders, grief and loss, relationships and communication, sadness and depression, stress and anxiety, gender and sexual identity, immigration and work and career struggles.
I create an environment that helps clients explore both the internal and external barriers to their healing and growth. As a psychologist I pull from working with diverse groups of people and assist on issues of trauma, grief, loss, relationship difficulties, wellness and health. To me, therapy is best when it's a mix of approaches that are used strategically to create a nonjudgmental and empathic atmosphere. My style is both warm and thought-provoking, and I actively collaborate with and support those with whom I work.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
