Suffering happens in isolation. The power of human connection and telling your story can be healing. I believe we're all incredibly resilient at our cores, though this can be overshadowed and challenged by expected and unexpected change, difficult events & trauma, and the subsequent wading & struggling through transition that inevitably follows. I can help you work through the hard parts. Expand awareness and understanding around destructive patterns and apply practices that improve your quality of life. You can manage really overwhelming feelings, reduce pain, deepen & enjoy relationships and even rediscover peace of mind.

NOT ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS AT THIS TIME. We are created and designed to enjoy life: to engage in meaningful relationships with God, ourselves and others, to enjoy pleasurable activities, and to contribute to society in meaningful and productive ways. But sometimes obstacles get in the way. Life's journey can become challenging; Traumatic events often result in distorted relationships with self and with others. My goal as an Individual and Marriage Therapist is to support you in achieving freedom, healing and wholeness by providing tools to help you discover new ways of facing life's difficulties

**I am not accepting new clients at this time** Are you overwhelmed with navigating pressures from family, culture and society? Is it hard to find someone who can understand the intersections of your identity and life experiences? My BIPOC clients often tell me about the emotional fatigue of having to explain their stories to mainstream providers. This takes the focus away from healing. They want strategies that honor their deep narratives and tools that respect their heritage and cultural wisdom. If you see yourself in any of these struggles, I invite you to schedule a free consultation with me to reclaim your story.

therapy is some real heavy, vulnerable shit and building a strong therapeutic relationship is at the core of creating a safe space for you to enter into the process. with this in mind, my practice is rooted in transparency, honest feedback, and is trauma-informed. i will openly share my process with you & what might be beneficial to try. i will inform you of when i am about to ask questions intended feel “spicy” and/or are likely to illicit strong internal response (which can sometimes get real uncomfortable real quick). for these reasons, i tend to align well with folx who prefer a direct, purposefully challenging approach.

Suicidal Ideation Therapists

How does therapy for suicidal ideation work?

Stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances can give rise to suicidal thinking. Therapy can address the events at the core of an individual’s suffering. Understanding why a person may be suicidal can help the therapist and the patient discover alternative methods of coping. A person with suicidal ideation may be mired in catastrophic thinking, and treatment like cognitive behavioral therapy is a good choice for breaking such patterns. In addition, treatment such as acceptance and commitment therapy can help a person manage their distress through better emotion regulation.

Which therapies are best for suicidal ideation?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual tolerate distress, regulate emotions, and not act on dangerous urges.

Are there specific medications to be combined with therapy?

The use of medication for suicidal thoughts must be aligned with the underlying cause; conditions such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis may be at the root of suicidal ideation. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for symptoms, which may include antipsychotics such as aripiprazole or antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for suicidal ideation?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. Still other patients, especially those with co-occurring conditions like major depression and anxiety, may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months. In some cases, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm.
