Life issues are part of human nature. At times we may feel or believe that our situations are unique and that theirs no one who can understand. Therefore, this belief system begins to create anxiety, depression and addictive behaviors that can permeate all aspects of our lives. Life then becomes overwhelming and unmanageable. With good therapy, these roadblocks can become a unique cornerstone for positive change and personal wellness.

I work with high-potential, creative and sensitive beings, who may feel stuck and burned out. I've discovered personally how somatic therapy revitalizes the organism and resolves psychological and health issues at the source. In particular it can shift anxiety, chronic pain, depression, loneliness, and imposter syndrome. It works to restore the nervous system to a state of healthy regulation, energy, flow and feeling at home in your body. This provides a foundation of authentic self-esteem that becomes the basis for a meaningful career and a network of healthy relationships—a life that feels great on the inside.

Throughout our lives, we face a barrage of challenges and sometimes they can compound, especially when they connect to how we were raised. These times can make us feel like we're pulled in too many directions, or like we're "stuck in a hole". If you're here now and exploring a way to seek answers/solutions, I want to congratulate you for taking the first and hardest step forward. I've worked with a broad spectrum of clients to aid in managing their current distress in the present while attending to resolving the past.

I believe you should like your therapist and feel like you’re making progress, rather than just spinning your wheels. A clinician’s knowledge, approach, and personality are key to achieving that, so I offer free 15 minute phone consultations in order to determine if we’d be a good fit. I have over 20 years experience treating adults, teens, and couples in the areas of anxiety, depression, relationships, and general self-growth. My other specialties include: mindfulness, integrative health, introversion, and highly sensitive people.

I work with clients who struggle with: unresolved emotional injury, trauma, self-worth, relational connection, mood/emotional problems, addictions, compulsive behaviors, and spiritual issues. I also work with members of the clergy (pastors, priests, missionaries, ministry leaders) who struggle with deep personal issues but lack a safe, nurturing space in which they may experience support and healing. My clients all seek and deserve healing in their lives and relationships.

Addiction cannot be overcome simply by knowing what it is or acknowledging its presence in your life. Nor can it be squashed by sheer will power. Many of our clients say they have felt that they could "just handle this by themselves," but once they reached out to us and got the help they needed, they realized that even if you can "just handle this alone," no one, including you, should ever have to. By reaching out to us, you are stating you are ready to bring balance back to your life.

Rooted in depth psychology, mind body and complementary practice, integrating trauma based psychotherapy and other evidence based psychological methodologies and modalities, I see adults, teens, couples struggling with personal, emotional, relational, parental challenges, life transitions, anxiety, depression, stress, disillusionment, as well, young adults navigating individuation, contending with middle, high school, university and post graduate adjustments. My approach is to open a present, safe, focused sphere inviting vulnerability and honest expression of true experience moving deeper and deeper into one's own knowing sense.

My practice focuses on helping individuals, couples, and families who are suffering from emotional or physical pain or the aftereffects of trauma. We help them resolve the traumatic experience, as well as its consequences (e.g. physical pain, stress, disability, depression, anxiety, insomnia, medication dependence, isolation, etc.) Although many of our patients have not responded well to prior therapies, we've had outstanding success in helping them move from feeling a severe loss to finding a new and positive beginning. We love to work with people who are ready to change and eager to learn how to do it.

You are successful in your career, but a feeling of unease, anxiety, or emotional numbness seems to always be with you. The stress of your work has gotten to be too much, and maybe your physical health, and well as your happiness, has begun to suffer. You desire a meaningful relationship, but your reluctance to vulnerability, likely a result of past traumas, is getting in the way. You find yourself often plagued with a sense of emptiness, or lack of purpose in your life, despite your financial and professional success. You hold yourself to a high standard, but your harsh inner critic has left you feeling like you aren’t good enough.

I focus on three dimensions in my psychotherapeutic work. The first is awareness and insight into our development as individuals and how this development has shaped our current functioning. There are no perfect parents nor perfect family experience without unmet needs and injuries (purposeful or unintentional). In understanding what we had to do to maintain critical attachments and equally critical separation and autonomy growing up, we discover that who we are is not fixed and irrevocable. We begin to see that we now have a choice to see ourselves and the world in new healthier ways and function differently in our current life.

I have seen many learn to sleep deeply, break free of repetitive worrying thoughts, get excited about life and increase their health and energy. I feel honored that people share their stories with me and have found that no situation is ever without hope. Life can be so much better. If you choose to share with me, we will find a way together.

Are you entering a new stage of life, or thinking of making a major change in your life? Are you unclear about the choices available to you? Are you feeling anxious and stressed out about the changes? Marriage, relationship challenges, divorce, graduation, career change, children leaving home, being a caregiver to parents, retirement, death of a spouse, as well as your own aging are all changes that increase stress and can be anxiety producing. It's much easier going through changes when you have an objective professional who can be your ally, trusted advisor, and guide through the process.

Men's Issues Therapists

Is therapy for men different than it is for women?

Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.

How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can men prepare for therapy?

Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.

What should men know about the process of therapy?

One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
