Life as we know presents us with many challenges, and some are often difficult to navigate through alone. I have a special interest working with adults and adolescents who are struggling particularly with anger, anxiety, depression and/or self esteem issues. I believe in exploring unhelpful thoughts, beliefs and patterns that continue to promote unpleasant feelings and self sabotage. I can assist you with developing positive self care; increased insight, healthy boundaries, better communication and strategies to manage stress better.

Much of my work is focused on anxiety, depression, behavioral concerns, trauma, loss, and life transitions.
Deciding to seek support from a therapist can be challenging and finding a therapist who is the right fit can feel overwhelming. I believe it is extremely important to connect with my clients and help them feel safe in a therapeutic environment. We are all navigating through difficult times and self-care is essential.

You keep telling yourself that you’re overreacting. You desperately try to convince yourself that there’s no reason for you to be feeling so anxious, sad, and overwhelmed. But it’s no use. And the constant inner nagging and self-criticism only make things worse. You’re always on edge, prepared for some unseen danger lurking around the corner. You can’t sleep at night, and concentrating is becoming impossible. Every decision you need to make is over-analyzed and second-guessed to the point of complete paralysis. You desperately want to find peace, but nothing you’ve tried has helped. You’re out of ideas, and it feels hopeless.

My ideal client is a client who struggles with anxiety, relationship issues, and family trauma. They'll learn to identify triggers, use healthier coping skills, and improve their overall mood. They will learn to communicate more assertively and openly to meet their needs. They also want to process past trauma and understand why and how it still affects them today.

I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy to help those living with depression, anxiety, and grief/loss.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who uses compassion and honesty to connect with my clients. Not one person is the same; everyone has their own unique set of strengths and needs. With that in mind, I build trusting relationships rooted in respect for a person’s individuality and desire for positive change. I believe in the interconnection between the mind, body, and spirit, so I encourage clients to establish healthy habits and routines while embracing support from others.

My speciality is working with individuals experiencing issues with stress, anxiety, depression, addiction, over-eating, grief and trauma. My approach is to first identify existing coping strategies to deal with the current stressors. Together, we sort out the underlying problems and identify and develop a tool kit with more effective coping strategies for the many challenges that the world throws at you. We examine and re-frame your emotional reactions to current and past trauma. The relationship between therapist and client is really important for change; and I do my best to provide a warm, natural, humorous and relaxed atmosphere.

I would love the opportunity to help you to decrease anxiety and increase your peace of mind.
It takes a lot of courage to seek out a therapist so kudos for getting to this point. My favorite piece of being a therapist is helping individuals to find peace within their own minds. Anxious thoughts, negative self talk and substance use can cloud our minds, prevent us from being fully present in the moment, deprive us of feeling joy and leave us feeling foggy, unorganized and irritated most days.

As a member of the LGBTQ or kink community you worry that your therapist might not “get it.” You are wondering if you can talk openly about your life and experiences. Maybe, you work in a setting (law enforcement, military, religious community...etc), or are part of a family where coming out or expressing your true self is scary as hell. I’ve been there and can relate! I am a gay man, served on Active Duty, and worked with adolescents and first responders for over nine years. I am a therapist AND I go to therapy. I believe in the power of therapy but I know the vulnerability required to reach out and schedule that first visit!

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
