Many common psychiatric symptoms are your body's way of saying things are out of balance. It doesn't mean you need meds, it means you need to learn how to get your body and brain back in balance so you can feel comfortable in your own skin, and become empowered to opt out of chronic illness and lost opportunities. I always say you deserve to feel your healthiest and absolute best all the time. I'd love to help you on your healing journey.

This is curious and brave therapy: the desire to learn and know, coupled with a willingness to embrace change. Whether you've been stumbling over narratives in the present rooted in the past, treading water in a sea of stagnation, or hearing the call to return to your true self - I would love to come alongside you on this journey. My goal in the therapy room is simple: to create space for you as you navigate life's obstacles and celebrations, and illuminate the shadows residing in your mind and body that are the key to empowerment and growth. A true psychonaut is "an explorer of one's own mind" - let's begin.

Have you tried traditional talk therapy and still need something more? I work with people who want a different approach. I utilize nature, play, energy, and animal-assisted therapy to help support the healing journey. Clients come seeking support for various reasons but I specialize in trauma and attachment, parenting for children who are struggling, empowerment and self-esteem. Using methods like expressive arts, yoga, partnering with nature and animals, healing happens emotionally, spiritually, cognitively and physically. I have a laid back style and you will often find me dressed in sweats or yoga pants.

As a therapist, my goal is to create a safe, non-judgmental, and comfortable environment for my clients. Overall, I use an very authentic, egalitarian, honest, direct, dialogic and relational approach. I focus on the ability of clients to make changes and find freedom in their lives by utilizing their unique potential, accepting personal responsibility, and exploring the meaning in life that they desire. My style stems from my belief that the client's own internal knowledge, strength, and commitment to change is what ultimately holds the power. Relational Gestalt therapy highly informs my clinical work and therapeutic style.

Do you feel as though you are parenting several children in one? Do you have an adoptive child that is struggling? Does your child: deny remembering specific events, vary in his/her abilities, rapidly change moods, steal, hoard food, lack social skills, show physical/verbal aggression, react disproportionately to specific situations? Are you confused by your child's behavior and frustrated that your current parenting skills/techniques are not effective? Are your child's teachers reporting inappropriate or disruptive behaviors at school? Would you like to gain hope, learn new skills, and see more of who your child really is?

Sexual Abuse Therapists

How do therapists treat sexual abuse?

A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?

Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?

Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?

As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
