Through the psychoanalytic method, a way of working collaboratively to understand how our lived experiences continue to influence our present circumstances, I will listen deeply with the aim of helping you grow in self-respect, self-assurance, and understanding.
Difficult feelings, unhealthy behaviors, dissatisfying relationships, and/or patterns of living one finds unproductive are a number of reasons people consult a psychologist. As a Licensed Psychologist with extensive professional training and experience, I can help you confront these challenges.

I am trained in psychoanalytic and psychodynamic therapy as well as childhood trauma and incorporate cognitive behavioral therapy to create a customized treatment plan to serve each client’s needs.
We strive to live our best lives, enjoy good experiences, and become content when we reflect on our past adventures. However, we often feel lost or disappointed when we are faced with obstacles. When we feel that moving forward has become more of a challenge and stress, anxiety and depression are holding us back; professional help is required to help maintain our foundation to allow us to move forward.

The current unprecedented state of our world has presented many challenges and taken a toll on mental health and wellness, triggering the body's stress response, de-activating the immune system, and putting our mind/body in survival mode. This has the propensity to escalate anxiety, depression, addiction, and disease and reactivates outdated coping skills and keeps our body in fight or flight. Let's work together to create a strong support system to manage and navigate the stress and uncertainty and minimize the toll on our mental health, physical health, and relationships, and empower ourselves for the future.

Earning a doctorate has given me tools for facilitating a deeper connection with my clients. This includes the non-verbal communication that passes between us, processing emotions through the body, and allowing my clients to explore their personal traumas with my support. The goal of working in this psychodynamic, explorative way is to create a deep level of healing and change for my clients, so they are able to move beyond the fear and resistance that may be holding them back. Please look at my website for more information about me: https://www.woodlandhillstherapy.net

As a licensed psychotherapist with 30 years of experience I have come to view therapy as a collaborative process between patient and therapist. My approach is one of inquiry, exploration and emotional understanding. I believe it is important to understand how we make meaning of our feelings, thoughts and experiences. I value the uniqueness of each therapeutic dyad and feel that this guides the course of treatment.

Having a child who is struggling academically, emotionally or socially can be disheartening. We all want the best for our children. Finding the right psychologist to evaluate and treat your child is crucial. I understand a parent's desire to find a warm and caring clinician who can not only help their child feel safe to express themselves, but who can teach them to develop strategies to manage difficult emotions. I have over 20 years of experience providing therapy and assessment services to children and adolescents. I firmly believe in the importance of working closely with both parent and child in order to achieve success.

When we are feeling down and in need of support, we all deserve someone to talk to about our experiences. Sometimes it's not easy to communicate with those we are closest to about what we are feeling. I'm here to support individuals and families in processing their emotions and life experiences in a supportive and constructive environment. My goal when working with families is often to bridge the communication gap between adults and children. Some areas I specializes in are disruptive behaviors, depression, anxiety, trauma, attachment and communication challenges. Please reach out for a consultation if ever you need support.

We all contain a force that strives for self-realization. When we nurture this force, we find positive ways of existing within and experiencing the world around this. We gain the strength necessary to tolerate stress and conflict. Without support, though, we may adopt unhealthy ways of surviving that directly counter how we wish to be. I offer a blend of psychotherapy that focuses on self-acceptance and self-discovery as the tools for emotional, behavioral, and social development. I have a deep respect for you and for the struggles that have become the way you learned to survive in the world. I believe in your ability to grow.

Therapy is about unraveling root causes of stressors, in order to process and redirect the mannerisms of rediscovering oneself. By gaining healthy therapeutic tools, coping skills and going through the steps of healthy processing individuals learn to live healthier and happier lives. As a psychotherapist I greatly enjoy working with all age ranges where I can incorporate my knowledge of CBT, DBT, PST and mindfulness. I recognize that no single therapeutic approach is inclusive of all clients. Thus, I put emphasis on the individual needs of each client and focus on uncovering the most appropriate therapeutic approaches for all.

In my practice, I focus on walking with clients through some of the most difficult events in their lives. Whether you've considered an experience “traumatic” or not, if it still haunts you or causes you uncomfortable physical responses like a racing heart or nausea, these can be treated with EMDR or Brainspotting.I, myself, am a trauma survivor, which is why I became a counselor/coach in the first place. I want to help others heal as I have. Utilizing modalities such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) can unlock sensations of safety, clarity and freedom in life.

Psychoanalytic Therapists

Does psychoanalytic therapy work?

Psychoanalytic therapy derives from the work of Sigmund Freud. In this type of therapy, discovering buried thoughts and emotions from the unconscious will help a person work through their difficulties and negative behaviors. Research shows that psychoanalytic therapy can be highly effective, with patients reporting improvement in mood, quality of life, and overall well-being.

How long are people typically in psychoanalytic therapy?

Traditional psychoanalysis is in-depth and is conducted in five sessions every week. Today, modern psychoanalytic therapy is less intense and normally incorporates as few as one or two sessions a week. In some cases, positive change can occur quickly. However, if the condition, difficulty, or behavior is deep-seated, improvement may require many months or years of therapy.

Is psychoanalytic therapy suitable for young people?

Children and adolescents can benefit from this type of therapy. Many kids and teens are often unable to form and communicate their thoughts and emotions. Psychoanalytic therapy uses specific techniques such as dream analysis, symbolism, and free association or word association; all of which can be useful tools for less-communicative young people. Through this therapy, a patient will hopefully make connections between what they feel inside and how the world works outside.

Can psychoanalytic therapy be done online?

Modern-day psychoanalytic therapy is very different from traditional psychoanalysis. While an individual can sit face-to-face with the psychoanalyst for multiple sessions a week, they do not have to. Today, psychoanalytic therapy can be effectively conducted online or by phone. The key is that the individual confronts what is repressed and avoided, and this can be done whether in person or over online video.
