Congratulations on taking action! Choosing a therapist can be difficult. It is important to find someone you can be comfortable talking to, you feel safe with, and most importantly, one who has the skills to help you.

I am a forensically trained clinical psychologist and I conduct parenting plan evaluations (formerly called child custody evaluations) throughout the state of Ohio. I also have been qualified as an expert in forensic psychology and I have experience providing expert testimony in Ohio and Maryland. I also provide psychological evaluations, including for ADHD. Life is not always easy. If you are struggling with feelings of anxiety or depression you are not alone. NIMH studies show that 43.5% of the US population will experience at least a mild anxiety disorder sometime in their lifetime. In my experience, I have seen that there are countless factors that contribute to our mental health. My focus is on the whole person. Together we will explore your biography as well as your biology. We will unpack your life story to discover a path to feeling healthy and strong again. I would consider it a privilege to listen.

My favorite part of therapy is seeing people rediscover their joy! Do you find yourself saying about your partner that you 'love them' but don't 'enjoy them'? Have you looked at your children or teens and wondered if the 'fun part' of parenting is over? I work with couples and families on a daily basis to help them figure out how to find that connection again. I help them resolve their current struggles and empower then to create better futures.

I am trained in Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and by the International Association of Trauma Professionals (IATP) as a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP).
18 years of counseling experience has taught me that we must examine what is happening beneath your symptoms. Your body holds on to painful memories and the engine inside revs continually until it finally cannot withstand any longer. It emits uncomfortable body sensations and emotions until the pain becomes enough to get your full attention. I'll help you "turn off the engine" of trauma so you can engage a system of thoughts, beliefs, and emotions that help you feel more like yourself again.

There are few professional relationships where trust, a commitment to openness, and creating a safe environment are more important than in the client/therapist dynamic. Finding the right therapist can be a difficult but essential feature in creating personal growth and fulfillment. It is my passionate belief that this working relationship between client and therapist is the foundation of successful treatment. I have over sixteen years of experience working with a broad and varied range of individuals struggling with a myriad of challenges, including anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, eating disorders, isolation, sexuality, gender identity, and relationship issues.

My specialties include Art Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy.
If you don't feel comfortable in traditional talk therapy, you may have a different learning style that deserves respect. There are four main learning styles: visual, auditory, reading/writing and kinesthetic, which requires physical interaction with the environment. If you are a visual person or need more engagement, then art therapy may be the best fit for you. Art Therapy is a method of self-expression that creates a safe and nonjudgmental space. The focus is on the process of creating and the meaning you bring to your art. No artistic talent is required. I offer telehealth (virtual) services to children, adolescents and adults.

Do you struggle with anxiety, panic, perfectionism, burnout, and a general sense of not being enough? Sometimes that looks like overworking, drowning in motherhood, or not being able to pin down exactly what doesn’t feel good in your life – just knowing that something is off. My deepest passion is helping women begin taking up space in their own life; typically that looks like a good balance of practicing new skills (setting boundaries, self-connection, communication, self-care, etc) while also exploring and healing deeply-held beliefs that make it difficult to do those skills on your own.

I am passionate about trauma, depression, anxiety, LGBQT concerns, personality disorders, and neurodivergence. An ideal client is an individual who has a growth mindset and explores their thoughts and feelings and how they impact their behavior. They may not understand how those thoughts derived from past experiences, but they are willing to open old wounds given the right tools. They feel safe and secure and want to heal through hard work and determination.

The stigma surrounding mental health care is finally starting to dissipate. It is my hope that preemptive counseling will eventually become as routine as annual trips to a primary care doctor. There’s much yet to be learned about the uncharted depths of the emotional world. The best place to start is in your own life. By doing your own work, you naturally pave the way for someone else to do theirs. Why not start today? If you’re stuck on your own path toward health, in a struggling relationship, or simply want to develop greater self-awareness, it’d be my honor to work with you.

Life is about patterns. We do the same things day after day because they help us function without having to concentrate on every little thing we do. That helps us in many ways, but it can also make us drift away from each other. Without knowing how we got there, we wake up one day wondering who our partner really is or what happened to the kids. That’s where therapy comes in – it helps reconnect couples and families so they can build new patterns that bring them together, not push them apart.

Behavioral Issues Therapists

What happens in therapy for behavioral issues?

No matter the type of therapy, individuals form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is often therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Individuals learn to identify situations that are especially troublesome for them and acquire new patterns of thinking and behaving. In therapy for ADHD, one of the most common behavior issues for children, individuals learn how to improve frustration tolerance, control impulsivity, manage attentional focus, and gain skills of self-organisation.

What therapy types help with behavioral issues?

Many types of therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Perhaps best-known and most widely tested is cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT), in which individuals learn new behavioral strategies and curb reactivity to frustrating or distressing situations that trigger disruptive behaviour. Anger, anxiety, mood disorders, impulse control problems are commonly addressed in CBT. Family therapy or parent management training is often helpful to reduce parent-child conflict and behavioral difficulties at home.

How long does therapy last for behavioral issues?

Among popular approaches to treating behavioral concerns, CBT is considered a short-term therapy intended to be administered in 15 to 20 weekly sessions. Parent training in behavior management, often used when the underlying cause of behavior issues is ADHD in children under 12, usually occurs in weekly sessions for 8 to 16 weeks. When behavioral issues stem from persistent aggression or defiance, therapy may last for months, and usually targets both children and their parents.

How effective is therapy for behavior issues?

Studies show that therapy for behavior issues in children is highly effective and may prevent the development of antisocial behavior later in life. Family intervention—parent management training or family therapy, both of which involve parents and children together—is considered most effective, notably for children under age 12 who persistently engage in aggressive, defiant, rule-breaking or other disruptive behavior. Whether provided alone or in combination with medication, CBT is highly effective in helping people regulate their emotions, and for people with ADHD, it addresses impulsiveness, hyperactivity and attentional focus.
