I embrace a Holistic and integrated approach; including: EMDR, CBT, Self-Care Techniques, Psychoeducation, empowerment and MI.
"When You Stumble in Life, Make it Part of Your Dance" I am a Licensed Professional Counselor; I specialize in alcohol and drug addiction. I believe that recovery is a journey for each individual to explore, and requires a trusting and non-judgmental therapeutic relationship. That each individual is the expert on self and will lead themselves to true happiness and freedom through their personal process of change. There are times we get lost on our journey, and need some help finding our road again...I would like to help.

I am trained in CBT, DBT, EMDR.
We all pass through difficult times in life. Divorce, relationship issues, medical problems, current or past traumas, financial issues, family conflict, grief and loss, academic, social and employment problems can impact us all. Depression and anxiety can be biological, rooted in adjustment and or stress, or a result of medical and substance abuse problems. My experience over the past 20 years providing group, individual and family treatment to adults and children has shown me there is no problem that can't be solved with the right combination of coaching, techniques, support and resources.

Weaving Traditional Talk Therapy, Mindfully Based Stressed Reduction methods, Cognitive Behavioral techniques, and Reiki principles into sessions, I support clients to better manage life's stressors and blindsides, and to gain greater understanding and acceptance of who they uniquely are.
Therapy is primarily about trust within the client-therapist relationship, and is most effective when you are recognized and supported in regard to your thoughts and emotions, life's experiences, situations, and environments. Embracing a well-rounded approach to treatment, I consider the importance of mindfulness, interplay of emotional and physical well being, and impact of learned patterns of behavior on how we each greet the world. I encourage people to embrace resilience asking themselves not "What's wrong with me?" but "What's right with me?"

One size never fits all. Each person and issue needs its own caring approach. Therapy includes: DBT, cognitive-behavioral, family systems, internal family systems, and trauma work, all with acceptance, warmth, and healing. Gains rely on maximum challenge with maximum support. I have successfully struggled in my life as a son, husband, and father of four. I know the pain of being wounded and the rewards of healing. For over 50 years I have helped kids and families as a teacher, school counselor, therapist, and supervising professor in three graduate counseling programs, including the Captains' Masters at the USMA at West Point.

Hi my hours are Monday through Thursday from 9am-2pm. I enjoy helping people find balance in their lives. Some of the issues I treat include: depression, anxiety, divorce, couples or family conflicts, self esteem issues and much more. I have been in practice for 25 years and use a variety of techniques to help people feel better and use tools well after therapy is over. Some include: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems Therapy, and Gestalt techniques. I often give homework assignments so that healthy work can continue outside of the therapeutic session. I see clients that range in age from 14 thru the elder years.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) Therapists

How does cognitive behavioral therapy work?

Cognitive behavioral therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophizing or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.

When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioral therapy?

It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioral therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.

How can I find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else?

To find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioral therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.

Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?

CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
