Often I employ an integrative approach to care that includes humanistic, cognitive and health psychology focused interventions.
I enjoy supporting couples seeking to clarify shared goals, address conflicts and increase their sense of appreciation for one another. Couples seeking guidance around navigating non-traditional partnerships, long distance, the management of finances, family planning, building and maintaining intimacy and improving communication among a myriad of other topics, generally find my approach helpful. I also support individuals managing symptoms of anxiety, depression and various life transitions.

Life is ever changing and there are times when we need someone who is impartial and nonjudgmental to help us through. As a licensed counselor I provide that support as well as a safe environment for individuals to express themselves freely and openly without fear of being shamed, embarrassed or criticized for their thoughts and/or feelings. I see many clients with depression and anxiety and have found Cognitive therapy has many benefits. The skill of mindfulness is one that I practice daily and, after teaching the client, encourage them to use it on a daily basis. I am now a registered hypnotherapist so I can now offer hypnosis.

As a therapist as well as a business consultant and coach, I work with individuals, couples, families and organizations. I work from a systemic orientation, which means that problems are embedded in a complex relational system rather than isolated in an individual. I will help you create healthier ways to be in relationship with others, whether it is your family, coworkers, collegues, and/or friends.

When life starts to feel overwhelming, fatiguing, and chaotic, reaching out for help can be especially difficult. Then as the challenges and issues of life become impossible, we start to lose hope. The truth is, we all have the ability to live a more abundant life, no matter how difficult our circumstances may be. Things like addictions, trauma, anxiety, depression, and difficult relationships can all be barriers to abundance. While these barriers may seem overwhelming, they don’t have to define you or prevent you from healing, growth, and a life that is full. When you can’t get past these barriers on our own, it’s okay to get help.

Family Business is in a league of its own. I help family businesses navigate change (or stagnation) by fostering clear decision-making, and helping clients separate family dynamics from business operations. As a former therapist, I noticed that when my family therapy clients had a family business, therapy would only get them so far... At some point, they had to address the nuts and bolts of operations: "I know I hate this position, but the business would fail if I stopped. But things have GOT to change." Sound familiar? Creating new relationship dynamics and habits means changing how you work together, at home AND the office.

As human beings, we live and grow and learn in a complex world. At the core of this complexity are the various relationships that we find ourselves in. Relationships with our selves, family members, friends, and communities. Some of these are chosen by us; others are not. Nevertheless, we often find our deepest meaning and deepest difficulties in these relationships. It is in the complex interplay between ourselves and these relationships that we can find ourselves struggling, even suffering. And yet there are strengths and challenges, weaknesses and limits, hope and pain in the midst of this life.

I enjoy working with individuals, couples and families. Having had experience working with trauma, I often work with those that find past issues are affecting them and their relationships in the present. I also have experience working with mood disorders such as anxiety and depression, life transition issues, chronic pain and health issues, as well as many other concerns. One of my main goals in our initial sessions is to grasp an understanding of your individual identity from an empathic and non-judgmental perspective; it is important in all of our sessions that you feel heard and that your opinion is valued.

Everyone encounters times when they feel confused or overwhelmed by life. There may be particular circumstances that arise, repeated patterns of reaction that become unhelpful, or deeper levels of trauma that seek resolution and understanding. I work to help you with an in-depth examination of your life, your patterns of mind, your relationships with others, and your place in the larger world. This work is not always easy, and can in fact, be quite a challenge. I draw on neuroscience, traditional talk therapy, yoga, body movement, mindfulness and meditation to support you as you gain awareness and make choices about your life.

My work with clients includes using out of the box thinking and methods while applying integrative techniques from EMDR, Cognitive-behavioral, Dialectical, motivational, strength-based, mindfulness stress reduction, and person-centered therapies to fit each clients individual needs for greater possibilities of success and positive outcomes.
Courage is being scared to death, but saddling up anyways.- John Wayne Counseling can be terrifying. You may have tried counseling before and felt like it didn't work or heard about someone else's bad experience. I believe that there is no cookie-cutter way of providing therapy and no client is the same. My ideal client is one who is willing to do the work during and in between sessions. I will challenge you, make you cry, make you laugh and empower you throughout your journey of healing and building the confidence in yourself.

Integrative Therapists

What is integrative therapy?

Integrative therapy is a type of therapy that combines ideas and techniques from different therapeutic approaches depending on the needs of the individual client. By merging elements of different treatments, an integrative therapist aims to offer a more flexible approach than those who practice just one type of therapy.

How does integrative therapy work?

Integrative therapy approaches a client’s mental, physical, and emotional health in a holistic way to discover the sources of their unhealthy behavior patterns or other challenges and considers the approach most likely to lead to improvement. Among the techniques an integrative therapist may practice are cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, EMDR, mindfulness, art or music therapy, psychodynamic therapy, breathwork, family systems therapy, gestalt therapy, and trauma-informed therapy. An integrative therapist regularly evaluates the client’s progress and is prepared to pivot to a different approach if progress stalls.

How long does integrative therapy last?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for integrative therapy; people who find they are making progress typically continue until they feel they’ve addressed the issues that spurred them to seek treatment. New patients should understand that it may take some time for a therapist to land on a treatment approach that best meets their needs, but once they do, they should expect sessions to extend for a number of months, typically including at least 12 sessions.

How effective is integrative therapy?

There are hundreds of types of talk therapy, and research shows that while they vary in form, goals, and frequency, many if not all can produce similarly successful outcomes. But a single approach does not always deliver the greatest, or speediest, benefit, and so even therapists primarily trained in one model will use tools, language, techniques, or exercises from others to shape an effective treatment plan.
