Maybe you are dealing with grieving a significant loss, anxiety and depression, adjusting to become a parent, struggle with belonging, or just feel stuck and know that you are ready to do something about it. Just as we require food and rest, we also require intentional time for ourselves. Being deeply seen and heard fortifies our courage to live as we want to live, and love as we want to be loved. Being understood is an investment we make in ourselves. I work to build the sense of trust needed for such vulnerable work and have a thoughtful style of care.

When our Memories are greater than our Dreams we tend to focus only on setbacks and disappointments. Changing behaviors that lead to a healthy lifestyle may seem like mission impossible based on the struggles and failures encountered in the past. I have a passion to help clients overcome obstacles that have lead to a perception of failure. I strive to help individuals stay motivated by focusing on what they have control over, learning new skills to bring life back into balance and gain confidence in themselves and their ability to succeed.

It takes a lot of strength to reach out when you are in need, and it says a lot about you that you are seeking support. If you choose to work with me, I promise to be patient as you address the challenges in your life. I am Clinical Therapist with over 10 years of experience working primarily with children, teens, and young adults. I use various play techniques and engaging activities to learn about the areas of need a child may have and what kinds of behaviors those needs have impacted. I am happy to work with parents who might be needing guidance or feedback regarding their children's behaviors or mental health needs as well. In addition to working with children, I also see some adolescents and young adults struggling with life changes and other mental health needs.

Life can be challenging for all of us at times. Maybe a new challenge or crisis has arisen, or maybe you want to address a problem you've carried for years. It can be hard, and takes strength, to acknowledge when you're stuck and need help dealing with painful feelings or self-defeating behaviors. I see adults and teens with a range of difficulties and goals, working together to understand and ease sorrow, anxiety, or anger; explore or (re-)discover parts of themselves; address problems in work, school, or relationships; heal from trauma; resolve ongoing battles with their mind or body; and/or live with greater joy and satisfaction.

Psychotherapy and counseling are most effective and long lasting when provided with compassion, understanding and hope. I believe in these values strongly. Talking about your doubts, worries and fears with a stranger can be daunting at first. When you are offered an open, responsive dialogue that is nonjudgemental, accepting and respectful this initial discomfort is replaced by a sense of emotional freedom rarely experienced before.Self acceptance and resiliency emerge and grow so that life challenges that before seemed so inhibiting are now met with confidence. I have been honored to witness and participate in these hard work miracles for over 35 years.

"Why is my life so out of control?" This is a very common question patients ask me when first entering treatment. The real question is what are the underlying root causes that is generating these challenging behaviors. Through a thorough assessment I will help you identify such areas as depression, anxiety, post traumatic stress disorder, life stressors, etc. that may actually be driving the dysfunctional behaviors of alcoholism and/or drug abuse, marital distress, poor anger management and overall stressful interpersonal conflicts. Let me help you develop a plan of action to get your life back today.

I work well with people who are curious about their thoughts and feelings. I do not tell my patients what to do, and I don't pretend to know how they should live their lives. I explore possibilities with my patients, while sometimes offering my thoughts if they are welcome. I also enjoy helping men understand their emotions and relationships on a deeper level, especially since men have so few spaces in which they can talk about the deepest parts of themselves.

Often, I am with my clients in some of their worst moments, and they struggle to talk about these experiences. As a clinician, I am open to working with individuals with many concerns as well as partners and family members who support them. My hope is to help people through trauma, difficult emotions and worrisome behaviors to lead a healthy and fulfilling life. Individuals seeking therapy may not know where to start their journey but together we can begin to tell their story.

Life has many challenges that we struggle with, many coming internally from our own minds. I can help navigate you through your journey to overcome intrusive, negative self-talk, low self-esteem and self-worth, trauma, and to assist with changing that inner voice that tells you, “you have to be perfect.” Using art therapy as well as CBT techniques, I work with students and professionals who are struggling with identity, life transitions, depression, and anxiety. Together we can work together to gain insight, develop coping skills and mindfulness techniques, defeat the negative self-talk, and create a life worth living.

I believe progression towards healing is always possible. The ability to heal is not the problem. It is getting the right help and doing “the work” that creates healing. I love helping people understand their issues and how to heal or deal with them.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Kent County?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
