As an agency, we specialize in providing psychiatry services, neurotherapy and QEEG analysis. Neurotherapy is a combination of neurofeedback and neurostimulation. The combination of approaches provides a superior result in mitigating a client’s symptoms. Neurotherapy is an effective empirically supported intervention for some mental health diagnoses. Over the years, we have treated and observed moderate to significant improvement in symptom reduction with our clients. Neurotherapy is a one of several tools we utilize at the clinic to achieve optimal results.

We realize that life brings us challenges, and we are not always prepared to deal with what our life presents to us. Life's challenges occur daily; it may be our child's behavior, a teenager we just can't seem to connect with, the loss of a loved one, or the loss of job. We know that change is inevitable but it is not always welcomed. At IntraSpect we strive to provide you alternatives, support, and guidance through life's challenges.

I believe that healing can happen through the process of empathic and supportive counseling. I work with mood issues, personality disorders, grief, substance use and more. I utilize a culturally sensitive and holistic psychodynamic style of therapy. This approach encourages development in all areas of life, and pays special attention to unconscious factors, childhood upbringing, trauma, and cultural identity (race, religion, sexuality, gender, disability, etc). I am currently accepting clients for group therapy, that will combine the sport/art of crew rowing with group talk therapy. This is a powerful way of feeling connection.

Are you ready to start treating your trauma and PTSD? Not sure where to start? I am here to help. If you struggle with sleeplessness, dreams of being back there, unable to get your brain to shut down and relax, feelings of shame, guilt, anger, and numbness, difficulty trusting.…you were not prepared for this. Having images pop into your head of that thing, those people, or that feeling. They may teach you how to do your job, but not how to deal with the fallout. You can be ok when you are with others who understand, but when you have to go home you may feel like you are alone or are not good enough for your family.

My primary goal is to facilitate growth and learning (or a quality evaluation report).
No matter the conditions, clients who experience the greatest benefit from counseling are the ones who come prepared to learn and grow. Anyone who steps into my office with such an eagerness will also leave having gained something. I am not fixed on any one specific method and adapt my approach based on client need and personality. In addition to counseling, I also offer psychological and educational evaluations. Testing covers a range of ADHD, learning disability, psychological, educational, neurocognitive, and functional capacity evaluations.

Education and Learning Disabilities Therapists

How effective is treatment for learning disabilities?

When initiated early and tailored to a child’s specific needs, learning disability treatment can be quite effective at helping a child cope with their disability, though its exact efficacy may depend on the severity of symptoms and whether comorbid disorders exist. Less is known about treatment initiated in adulthood, but it is certainly possible that an adult with a learning disability will see some improvement—or at the very least, identify workarounds and accommodations that could make symptoms less burdensome in day-to-day life.

When should someone seek treatment for learning disabilities?

It’s best to seek treatment as early as possible. Because learning disabilities often go unnoticed until a child starts school, or even until they’re a few years along, regular check-ins with teachers and doctors can help parents determine whether children are meeting milestones and keeping up with peers or whether an evaluation for learning disabilities may be warranted. And although earlier is always better, it’s never too late to be evaluated for learning disabilities and to seek treatment.

What happens if learning disabilities are left untreated?

Undiagnosed and untreated learning disabilities can be a source of significant frustration and shame for a child, who may feel that their challenges stem from a lack of intelligence or willpower. Such feelings can trigger low self-esteem, depression, or anxiety, which may push a child toward risky behaviors, including substance use. In adulthood, untreated learning disabilities can interfere with career success, and lingering feelings of self-doubt and shame can negatively affect someone’s mental health.

Are there medications for learning disabilities?

Currently, there are no medications designed to treat specific learning disabilities such as dysgraphia or dyscalculia. However, someone with a learning disability may be prescribed medication for a comorbid condition, such as anxiety, depression, or ADHD, which may have positive downstream effects on their learning disability; for example, a child with both ADHD and dyslexia may find that they’re better able to focus on their reading exercises after being prescribed a stimulant medication.
