My goal in counseling is to help each individual or family find their path to healing and being their own genuine self.
My ideal client is one who is aware that they need to do something different but aren't quite sure what the next step is. This could be a life transition from adolescence to adulthood, or a couple who struggles with communication. It could be more intense like a couple who is in the middle of despair or broken trust, or an individual or child who has experienced something traumatic that has changed their whole world. All these individuals are looking for ways to regain their life and become who they believe themselves to be.

I am a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, and a Licensed Professional Counselor to help direct your path toward a more fulfilling, manageable life.
My experience with helping individuals and families overcome difficult challenges is my passion. I believe that it easier to find and build upon one's strengths than it is to focus primarily on fixing problems. Much of my time in therapy is spent on discovering creative solutions rather than talking too long just about what is wrong. I often involve the whole family and believe that every person is unique and requires an individualized approach. One size does not fit all. Please call me or email today discuss your needs and hopes and/or to set an appointment time.

I have experience working with at-risk children, adolescents, couples counseling, and family systems therapy.
Life becomes too difficult; you need an objective someone to talk to, listen to your story, and provide encouragement that you can not only survive what you are going through, but work to find purpose and meaning in the midst of the storm. The most important aspect of therapy is the Client-Therapist relationship. Once it is determined that the Client is comfortable with me, then it is a collaborative effort to help facilitate the healing process through the life changes the Client faces. My job is to provide a safe place for change and growth to happen.

I specialize in almost any type of crisis: relationship, financial, work, or even existential (ok so maybe not the last but I'll give it a try!) I tend to address a lot of the following issues: Boundaries, PTSD, Marriage and Family, Personal Growth, Addictions, General Relationship, OCD, and many, many other areas.
I'm not your typical counselor... You won't find me busy looking at my notes and only paying attention half the time you're talking. My style is very conversational and I'll share about myself any time it's pertinent, or when asked. I don't believe in dragging counseling out because it's expensive so why waste your time and money? You've got a problem so let's get to fixing it! The bottom line is your quality of life: it's not where you want/need it to be, and it's my job to help you improve it. My primary office is in Springfield, MO with a secondary location in Chesterfield, MO a few days a week.

Most of our knowledge about relationships and managing our experience comes from our family units and different friendships we have growing up.
The relationship one is able to build with a counselor is essential in the process of healing. As a clinician I strive to create a trusting foundation that allows my clients to explore their thoughts, emotions and somatic experiences. Taking this holistic perspective to mental health allows clients to understand and integrate things on a deeper level.

Finding "Calm in Chaos" is an overarching theme in my counseling practice, my court appointed high conflict co-parenting sessions, expert witness testimony in family, civil, and federal court cases, as well as in my executive and life coaching practice. Conflict is prevalent today in our personal and professional lives. With so much uncertainty I found it imperative to develop a 'Mental Health Urgent Care' counseling model. In a quest to immediately address unexpected trauma, I offer sessions three days per week rooted in a medical triage model. This permits those with critical needs to not have to wait months for a session.

I love that my profession allows me to connect with a wide array of people. I work with individuals ranging from late adolescence to late adulthood. I also provide family sessions for my clients, as needed. Hearing people's experiences throughout my time as a counselor has shown me how resilient people can be, and it's truly inspiring. I enjoy working with motivated clients who are ready and willing to make changes and break out of unhealthy patterns.

I look forward to working with clients whose life path may have created difficulties for them that has led them not be the best of who they can be. Each individual's path may have been sprinkled with physical or emotional abuse, neglect, assault, grief and loss, domestic violence, marital or parental discord or a myriad of other situations. Sometimes these life paths create in my clients a feeling of hopeless and loss of self-worth, sometimes these path end with someone needing to determine a plan to leave an unsafe living situation. Sometimes these paths lead to turning to substances and illegal drugs to cope with the internal turmoil and pain. It is my privlege to work with clients to help them identify and bring forth the best of who they are and what they want for their life, their family and their future through their own individual strengths.

Services include individual, couples and family sessions as well as parenting strategies and education.
Healthy boundaries, relationships and communication can be really hard. Feelings of doubt, anxiety and /or depression can influence our behaviors, emotions and mood. If these or other areas of concern are preventing you from reaching your full potential, counseling can be an empowering experience. We open our lives and our hearts to strangers in counseling. It’s natural to want to find a person whom you can relate to and trust before beginning this journey. I look forward to partnering with you during your time of discovery. As an EMDR practioner we can discuss if this integrated approach is right for you.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
