As an Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapist, I help you as an individual to connect to different parts of yourself, different perspectives inside you that are deeply valuable but not always harmonious.
Openings available! As an IFS psychotherapist, I am passionate about giving my clients a safe place to be themselves, explore their inner wisdom, & navigate life’s challenges without needing to face them alone. I work with many issues but specialize in supporting survivors of complex trauma or relational transgression (childhood abuse, toxic relationships, or betrayals by partners, employers, spiritual leaders), folks facing life transitions, members of the LGBTQ+ community, & people navigating spiritual/religious crossroads or issues. I hold myself accountable to be culturally competent, trauma-informed, & LGBTQ-affirming.

I use clinically proven treatment modalities such as Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Bowen Family Systems Therapy to help you gain clarity, improve communication, heal relationships, and avoid repeating the same mistakes or unhealthy patterns.
I’m Ongisa, a Couple and Family Therapist with a specialty in human communication. I work extensively with individuals and couples. I often find that communication breakdowns are at the center of unhappy relationships. Poor communication can leave partners feeling unsafe, misunderstood, and exhausted. If you’re currently experiencing distress or a disconnect in a relationship that genuinely matters to you, then I’m your person.

I practice from a strengths-based approach and utilize a combination of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC), and Internal Family Systems (IFS).
You never learned how to set healthy boundaries, which has led to people-pleasing behavior, low self-esteem and difficulty having your needs met in relationships. Maybe you've coped with painful feelings with food, drugs or bad relationships. You deserve to be valued for who you are and not what you do for others. The opportunity to show up in your life as your true self can feel both exciting and terrifying. I offer a warm, safe environment to process painful feelings that may arise during this process. Together we can learn new ways to cope that will help you build a life that feels true to you.

To support my clients, I utilize a holistic approach informed by evidence-based modalities like, Internal Family Systems, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, The Gottman Method, and the Holistic Arts.
Morning Availability Only - I believe people possess intrinsic strength and inner wisdom, leading them to identify solutions for their lives. However, trauma, stress, and other problems sometimes get in the way of coping with the day-to-day of life's demands. As challenges arise, so does the need for support. As a therapist, I aim to help individuals and couples improve their relationship with themselves and each other. I enjoy helping clients through dilemmas such as anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, sexual identity, and relational ruptures.

Feeling like you are not living a life that is authentic to your sense of Self can leave you feeling like you are not living a life of purpose. "Who am I, or I am more than this, or I don't know who I am suppose to be" are words that can leave you feeling lost, empty, and full of fear. That fear can manifest in anger, abuse, violence and self-loathing. Through working with me, I can help you learn to love yourself, surrender negative thoughts and teach you how to get to your best Self.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapists

What is Internal Family Systems therapy?

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a type of talk therapy that focuses on sub-personalities, or “families,” within a person, which may be made up of wounded parts and unpleasant emotions like anger and shame. These sub-personalities can come into conflict with each other and with an individual’s core Self, leaving the person feeling detached from positive traits such as the “8 C’s” of confidence, calmness, creativity, clarity, curiosity, courage, compassion, and connectedness. By healing a patient’s wounded parts, a therapist aims to restore balance and bring on positive change.

How does Internal Family Systems therapy work?

An IFS therapist will work with a patient to identify their particular sub-personalities, recognize the emotions powering them, and release them. By doing so, the patient should become more able to address any underlying problems their sub-personalities may have been trying to protect them from. Ultimately, a patient discovers ways to manage internal and external conflicts on their own, through techniques such as relaxation exercises, journaling, and making charts depicting the relationships between their core Self and their distinct parts.

Does Internal Family Systems therapy work?

IFS therapy has been shown to help people address conditions such as depression, anxiety, panic, fears and phobias, trauma, and substance use disorders. Some research has also found that it can help individuals deal with symptoms of physical health conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, such as pain, everyday functioning, depressive feelings, and low self-compassion. There are some conditions for which IFS treatment, specifically discussions of one’s “parts,” may be less appropriate, such as schizophrenia or other states that involve psychosis or paranoia.

How long does Internal Family Systems therapy take?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for IFS therapy. After becoming comfortable with a therapist and the core concepts of IFS, some patients quickly make progress. While experiences vary, most will find that it is a relatively longer-term therapy, involving months and sometimes years of sessions.
