My approach is relational and experiential.
"Whatever you do hold onto hope, my friend. The tiniest thread will twist into an unbreakable cord. Let hope anchor you in the possibility that this is not the end of your story, that hope will anchor you onto peaceful shores."-unknown. Helping individuals and families thrive is my passion as I believe that we are all inherently capable of healing and even thriving from challenging situations and painful life transitions. Leading people to their unique path for healing and understanding their own power and pain is an honor I cherish.

In terms of my treatment approach, my style is warm, direct, and collaborative. I find that most issues that bring individuals to therapy are, at their core, about emotions and relationships. So, I spend a good deal of effort learning about patterns of emotional expression within current and important historical relationships. My approach is to seek immediate reduction of symptoms while creating a treatment pathway to address long-term, underlying problems.

Let's be honest, life and relationships aren't always easy. If we are a good fit, I have a seat ready for you, so that you aren't doing it alone. You may be experiencing unexpected life change, disruption in your relationship, you feel life is harder more days than not, or need help healing from your past. Maybe, you want to dive into self-exploration. I have spent the last decade helping individuals and couples navigate through difficult times. I'm here to meet you where you are, dig deep to help you find where it is you want to be, and work together to get you there.

I have a passion for helping people get through the difficult times in their life, whether that is from losing a loved one to just the day-to-day stress that life sometimes brings. Sometimes life's path is a difficult one to navigate alone and I want to be that person that walks beside those who are needing assistance in navigating that path.

Ready for things to change? Tired of feeling stuck in cycles in your relationship, your moods, your behaviours? Have there been events in your past you'd rather not have replay in your head over and over again? A sense of security, meaning and control is probably what you're looking for. In therapy you (and your partner and/or family members) will learn how to use many methods (including self-hypnosis) to speed up the process of gaining new insights and to reinforce your resolve to enact change in your life, as you choose. You remain entirely in control of your experiences.

You're a parent or a guardian who often feels overwhelmed by the emotional and behavioral challenges that their children face. It can be tough to provide co-regulation when you're feeling heightened as well. Maybe your child needs help regulating their emotional reactivity to high stress situations or finding coping skills that can help calm the storm of flooded feelings and expression. My hope is that we can work together to find strategies that range from processing trauma to meeting the unique needs of children who are gifted with diverse abilities.

Waitlist for new clients
Each person has his or her own unique story, and this requires the therapist to place himself or herself aside and create a safe space for the client to explore and heal. As I work towards becoming a Registered Play Therapist, I enjoy working with a wide range of clientele including children, families, couples, and individuals. It would be a privilege to come along side you and talk with you about your journey in a judgment-free space where you feel both comfortable and safe.

“The path isn't a straight line; it’s a spiral…” How is your spiral going, are you doing okay? Are things rough right now? I don't know your situation but I would love to stop and listen to your story. I know starting therapy can be hard, but please don't worry, I am just a person who wants to help where I can. Grab some coffee, tea, find somewhere comfy, and let's have a conversation, shall we? I believe that therapy is a place where both our difficult traumas and our challenges are discussed, as well as a place of healing that highlights the personal victories, and things that give us hope, and keep us going each day.

It is very easy to believe that change can't happen or that it's too late to make adjustments. The duration of a problem has nothing to do with your ability to make changes. You can start at any time to make changes that will make a difference in you life. Let me help you explore the steps you need to make improvements in your life.

Are you exhausted at the end of your work day, burned out, or physically sick more often than in the past? As a caregiver, compassion and empathy drive your work, requiring an emotional investment in other people that leaves you drained. It can be difficult to set aside time for your own emotional needs. After all, we have been trained to fully focus on the mental health and well-being of other people. You want to provide the best client care, focusing fully on their mental health, and still have energy left for yourself at the end of the day.

You’ve done well over the years to keep your work and personal life separate, but suddenly you find yourself distracted with all that's happening in your life. You notice that you're quick to react and short-tempered much of the day, and being home is often chaotic and overwhelming. Your emotions aren’t so ‘perfectly’ concealed anymore like they once were. Sometimes you feel disappointment and guilt when you think about how much easier it is at work than being home—at least you are respected and appreciated there. You've honestly tried to make everyone happy, but it never seems like enough. You just want to fix it all.

Life is a journey that can be full of uncertainty. At times we need the assistance of a trusted guide that can help keep us on track, be a sounding board to offer support, and help coach us through the most difficult moments. My calling as a therapist is to provide assistance throughout this journey while helping you move beyond your past, develop new skills, and hone in on your strengths. My motto for therapy is: "I am not what happened to me, I am what I choose to become." -Carl Jung

True counseling creates a relationship between the client and the counselor; a relationship of mutual respect and trust. With the right counselor this relationship can be life-changing. My approach is unique. My office space is cozy and inviting, just like your very own living room. Also, I believe in being down to earth and straightforward with my clients, and in working with them to bring about true healing.

Relational Therapists

How does relational therapy work?

Relational therapy was developed by psychologist Jean Miller, whose ideas stressed that having strong connections with others encourages better health and well-being when compared with a lonely existence. Conversely, poor interpersonal relationships do not foster growth and learning. Relational therapy also encourages trust in others and patience with others, along with better communication and less conflict.

Is relational therapy evidence-based?

Relational therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating certain mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments like cognitive behavioral or acceptance and commitment therapy. However, relational therapy uses techniques found in cognitive behavioral therapy as well as psychodynamic therapy, which are both well-studied with empirical research.

How long are people typically in relational therapy?

Clients may see improvement after a few weeks or months of therapy. Like cognitive behavioral therapy, relational therapy can reduce symptoms within 10 to 20 weeks, at 45 to 50 minutes once a week. But like any type of therapy, improvement depends on the person and the severity of the problem.

Does relational therapy work?

While no therapy type will work for everyone, some evidence suggests that this therapy can be effective. Relational therapy can help a person manage problematic relationships as well as the mental health conditions that accompany difficult relationships like depression or anxiety. This therapy type may offer benefits that are hard to measure but can be just as valuable—including feelings of higher self-worth or healthier connections with others.
