You are not alone. You are not broken or defective. Help is available, and the first step is admitting to yourself that you need it. My ideal client is someone who is 25+, self-identifies with one or more marginalized groups, and wants to change their life/world by starting with themself. Common concerns I work with are: LGBTQIA+, low self-esteem/self-worth, post-traumatic stress, institutional/systemic abuse/barriers, loneliness, depression, anger, dysfunctional family of origin, adjustment difficulties, childhood abuse/neglect, identity development/exploration, anxiety, hypervigilance, and difficulties connecting with others.

We are all called to evolve beyond our survival level strategies designed to cope with wounding family systems, lineages and social systems. It is possible to integrate the legacy of trauma we have inherited and thrive in this lifetime. We are collectively facing monumental global challenges, socially, politically and environmentally, that amplifies this legacy, and hastens the call for us to cultivate greater capacity to stay present, grounded and lovingly engaged. Returning to wholeness requires reorienting towards mobilizing our rich inner and outer resources, shifting from generating suffering to unlocking liberation.

In my practice I draw from mindfulness-based, transpersonal, existential, and family systems therapies.
With mindfulness- and compassion-based therapy, I support clients through grief & loss, relationship issues, healing from trauma, and searching for meaning & purpose. So many of the issues that bring people to therapy are natural responses to the challenges we face as human beings. Through the process of therapy, we bring curiosity and compassion to our inner experience; and in the safety of a non-judgmental space, we explore options for understanding and growth.

The following therapies inform my practice: depth psychology, psychodynamic, humanistic and existential, Internal Family Systems (IFS parts work), ecopsychology, and mindfulness.
My imagination is captivated by how intricate and interconnected our stories are with the world around us, both in our intimate relationships and in the culture and society in which we live. Oftentimes these stories can weave patterns of disconnection between oneself and others, leaving us feeling stuck, and in need of care and tending. In my work, I offer a heartfelt and empathic space to explore your experience in the world. Whether it’s finding self-acceptance, moving through anxiety or depression, or navigating relationship challenges, I meet you where you’re at and help you find your inner resources for healing.

Being a human being can be quite challenging! There's a saying about the mind: 'the mind is a good servant, but a cruel taskmaster!' Many of us never learned how to calm our minds, limit our worrying, and self-soothe. Mindfulness training is one of the most researched methods for learning to do this. My work with individuals helps them to become skilled in this way, and to lessen the grip of attitudes and beliefs that limit us in significant ways. I work with individuals in this way, as well as with groups.

Welcome! I believe that one of the essential ingredients of change and transformative psychotherapy is the relationship between the individual and the therapist. Feeling understood and comfortable not only helps reduce one's symptoms, encouraging self-acceptance, but also leads toward deeper work which promotes lasting change and a deeper experience of one's unique self.

Hello there! I'm Kalina, and my passion is to help guide people in their journeys back to their fullest, brightest, and most authentic selves- also known as the True Self. We all weather storms and hardship, and sometimes we are imbalanced from these experiences. This imbalance can look like anxiety, depression, PTSD, etc. When we are imbalanced, we can feel distant from our True Self. We each have our own Inner Healer, and this part of us knows better than anyone what it is that will bring us back into balance- and bring us back to our True Self. My role is to facilitate connection with your Inner Healer, and thus, your True Self.

I combine traditional talk therapy with integrative and holistic approaches that calm the nervous system, access inner knowledge, strengthen the Self, and develop new ways of coping with challenges. These can include breath and relaxation, guided imagery, meditation, and energy psychology. I also teach cognitive behavioral techniques to change harmful thought patterns. Based in current brain science and ancient wisdom teachings, I help people utilize the healthy and mature parts of themselves to become more conscious, integrated, and whole.

I’m a very passionate therapist that centers her work around being trauma informed and client centered. I provide individual psychotherapy to adults that have a range of complex issues such as trauma, depression, anxiety, stress management, identity and much more. I work with clients using an intersectional and social justice lens that has been developed over years of working with oppressed communities such as survivors on domestic and sexual violence. The strength-based approach I use, helps clients look within the blackness to find the light.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
