You are the expert of your life and your family. My goal is to create a non-judgmental, therapeutic space for us to work together to explore any doubts, overwhelming feelings, or past experiences that are affecting the present. Whatever you are going through, you do not have to feel alone. I would love to be invited into your world as a partner in working through this time together. I enjoy working with people of all ages and have a special interest in working with children, those transitioning into parenthood, or finding parenting harder than they expected.

Relationships are central to my work, whether it be the relationship between a child or adult and myself, or the complex web of relationships within a family. My training and experience in Infant Mental Health--a type of therapy focusing on the attachment relationship between a primary caregiver and and an infant or young child--permeates all aspects of my work. I believe that therapy cannot separate an individual from the context of his or her relationships, past or present. I am creative and flexible in my approach to working with the children, teens, adults and families that I serve.

Areas of interest also include parent guidance, family help to balance internet and texting usage, stress management and procrastination.
Deciding to call a therapist and seek help can be difficult. I work with clients to establish a strong working relationship. Together, we can work to identify obstacles that block you from reaching your potential in different areas of your life. My style balances insight-oriented talk-therapy with common sense -- and some humor when possible.

I am trained in EMDR, CBT, and motivational interviewing as well as Polyvagal Theory and Internal Family Systems (IFS).
Ever feel like you don't matter? Feel lonely, disconnected and don't know where to turn? Well, you matter! Let's talk!! I have worked with adolescents and young adults for over 25 years. Often times people who identify outside the "norm" feel like they don't matter, they do! The world around you is so uncertain and at times and can be not safe. Maybe you have experienced trauma, anxiety, depression, bullying, or you just feel marginalized. You need to feel safe to talk and work through your concerns. It's exhausting to carry that burden alone. I enjoy working with adolescents and teens, but also have a good rapport with adults.

On a more experiential level, I utilize principles and strategies of EMDR, Internal Family Systems, and Expressive Arts Therapy.
My client has the answers they need inside of them, they just need some perspective. Most of my clients have experienced trauma in their lives in some form, and struggled with finding themselves or finding meaning in their life experience afterward. I enjoy navigating and exploring the full-range of human experience including issues pertaining to identity and sexuality, unearthing fears and anxieties, boundary setting, and building expression in all areas of life.

Our experiences include working with teens, family/work related stress, grief and loss, trauma (abuse and other traumatic experiences) and individuals struggling with depression and/or anxiety.
We provide services that would help empower clients to reach their full potential. We believe that a holistic approach is essential in working through life's challenges and focusing on the whole person. The ideal client understands that there is no secret formula for change, however, with persistence and effort, change is inevitable.

I use a holistic approach to treatment informed by a number of evidenced based, neuroscience, and trauma informed models of intervention including; Mindfulness based Self Compassion, Internal Family Systems, Attachment Theory, Experiential Therapy, and EMDR.
I use a strength based, collaborative, and mindful approach during treatment. I practice from a trauma and attachment based lens bringing mindfulness and curiosity into each session. For over 15 years, I have been successfully working with children, youth and families. Together we will explore past and current stressors and how these experiences have impacted habits and coping styles with an understanding that each of us adapts the best that we can to obstacles in life. We will look at areas in your life where you are feeling stuck and explore what you need to move forward.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
