I work with adults with anxiety, self-esteem, relationship issues, abuse issues (emotional, physical, sexual), military issues (deployment/family reunification), personal growth, attachment styles, d/Deaf culture issues, cultural & spiritual concerns, and career counseling (work-life balance)!.
Do you find yourself feeling mentally or emotionally overwhelmed? Are you going through a life change that has you wondering what "normal" even means anymore? Have you felt missed (unseen/unheard), lonely, disposable, or unwanted by others (or yourself)? Are you struggling with self-worth, personal identity, and meaning-making? Are you having difficulty navigating the pressures that come with cultivating healthy-wholehearted relationships? What would it be like to feel yourself authentically as well as a genuine connection with others? When you envision your best life, what would you need to change to make that your reality?

Some of the interventions I utilize are: Solution Focused, Cognitive Behavioral, Mindfulness, Dialectal Behavioral, Family Therapy, Play Therapy, and Psycho-Education .
I believe that everyone has a story that needs to be told. There is such power and change that comes when someone shares their personal story, and I believe that everyone’s story should be heard, no matter the age. People go through life with their own struggles, trials, and perceptions; but they don’t have to do it alone. As a clinician, I provide a safe place for my clients to share their story, provide empathetic support, and encourage change through personal empowerment and shifted perspective. I use a combination of therapeutic interventions to best serve each individual.

I have worked within mental health agencies, schools, directed early intervention and school aged family base counseling programs, and taught at the university level.
UPDATE as of 9/7/23... I currently am NOT able to take on new clients. I appreciate your interest and apologize for any inconvenience this may create. I DO have availability with my MFT student/intern. Please reach out to be seen by him. We all struggle in life sometimes and need help! In this day and age it can be hard to find the space to discuss the challenges of life with someone in a safe and genuine way. I enjoy meeting people where they are at in life, without judgement, and helping them sort out their next steps whether they be for improvement, maintenance, or understanding.

A lot of people find themselves trapped in chronic cycles of conflict that lead to disconnection, distance, and loneliness in their relationships. I believe hidden in the conflicts are seeds of opportunity. Opportunities for disconnection and distance or opportunities for deeper understanding and connection. Using structured techniques, I help create a space that allows couples to break habitual, destructive patterns of conflict, uncover the root cause of their conflicts, and change the paradigm, inviting deeper connection, deeper understanding, and deeper intimacy.

We are more capable of change than we believe. Before change is attainable, we must believe change is possible. Stephanie is Level II trained in EMDR, a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from symptoms & emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences. In a relaxed environment using natural conversation, Stephanie helps clients become aware of self-defeating thoughts & behaviors that contribute to feeling overwhelmed & low self-esteem. By recognizing & changing these patterns, growth & healthy emotional responses develop, while self-doubt & confusion are transformed to self-confidence, clarity, & peace.

“When we have the courage to walk into our story and own it, we get to write the ending"- Brené Brown. When past memories and daily life are overwhelming, throwing us off balance, we are often left feeling powerless to effect change. Our efforts to protect ourselves from feeling painful emotions can leave us with anxiety, depression, anger, and relational issues, as well as keep us from experiencing the positive emotions we so desperately desire. Our stories are meant to be told, and as an empathetic witness, I look forward to holding space with my clients so they no longer have to navigate those hard places alone.

I believe all people deserve to experience unconditional positive regard; the acceptance of who you are regardless of what you say or do. You are unique, and I like to embrace that uniqueness and show you how to use it as your own personal superpower. Although we cannot avoid loss, pain, disappointment, and trauma, I find that when people connect with others they are inherently strengthened. There is power in telling your story in safe spaces.

I practice a holistic approach to therapy where you and I work together to help you as a whole person, not just one concern. I believe in reinforcing what strengths you already have while challenging which patterns slow down or stop progress or growth. There's no "right or wrong, good or bad" in addressing concerns. There's what works and what doesn't. Together, we can find what works to do more of it, and less of what doesn't.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
