I have experience doing family and couples therapy in rehabs and I welcome working with families navigating the impacts of addiction.
I am passionate about working with children, teens, families, and couples. I believe therapy should be accessible for everyone and use a sliding scale model based on income to find a fee that works for you. I am trained in EMDR and am a certified Somatic Experiencing Practitioner. I interweave these modalities, along with exercises from IFS, DBT, psychodynamic therapy, and Gestalt therapy, to help you work through issues relating to attachment in relationships, depression, traumatic experiences, anxiety, complex PTSD, grief, addictive patterns, codependency, and LGBTQ+ issues.

I use therapeutic strategies pulled from Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Family Systems, and integrate several psychodynamic approaches that best align with your goals.
Starting therapy can feel daunting, so take a moment to acknowledge that you have come this far in recognizing psychotherapy may be a helpful approach for you. Therapy requires self reflection, an open heart, and a curious mind into learning about ourselves and the way in which we interact with the world and those around us. Although it may be daunting, it is incredibly rewarding to unpack and understand what is getting in the way of happiness, growth, intimacy, and self-compassion.

Welcome and thank you for viewing my profile. I know that finding the right therapist is a very important decision. At various times in our lives it is common to experience circumstances that seem too difficult to solve on one's own. I work with people who are having problems in their relationships with partners, family and with work related concerns. Depression, anxiety, stress, and feeling stuck in life make what is already difficult more complicated to navigate alone.

I have worked in the fields of individual, couple, family and group counseling, crisis prevention, child advocacy and shyness research since 1993.
Hello! I work with individuals who wish to create lasting, positive changes in their lives and relationships. I offer safe, compassionate and supportive counseling in an atmosphere that deepens understanding, promotes healing, and releases potential. Unresolved emotional issues can stifle creativity, confidence, ambition, and our ability for good relationships. Trauma and loss can cause sadness, depression and pain that inhibit and block. My personal style is interactive, empathic, non-judgmental and respectful of individual values and choices.

In family and couples therapy, we'll work to ensure every voice is heard.
At times, we find ourselves stuck and feeling frozen. We get overwhelmed with emotions and burn out from the demands of everyday life. In our work together, we can filter out external pressures, voices, and expectations to learn to tune into your inner wisdom. By fostering a deeper understanding of yourself, we can identify what’s causing pain and work towards feeling better. Together, we will work on finding acceptance, clarity, and a goal toward peace.

Family, culture, and life experiences caused a structure to form that was protective, yet now no longer serves us.
In my experience, external circumstances directly reflect internal workings. Therefore, to change our outside life, the work must start within. My practice is about meeting ourselves in the present moment with the understanding that as we feel into our pain, expansion of experience is opened, allowing for greater expressions of love and joy. The therapy becomes a place to be with what we so often deny ourselves, the tenderness, shakiness, fear, suffering, connectedness, love, bliss, and so much more.

Everyone runs into trouble at some point in their life. When they do, they often benefit from talking to someone who isn't primarily their friend or member of their family, someone who is empathic, curious, non-judgmental, and relentlessly focused on helping you feel better. Therapy isn't a one-size-fits-all enterprise, but has to tailored to what you need. Whether it's about simply feeling less anxious or depressed, or mastering an inhibition or block you've had all your life, therapy can get you back on the track you once were on or want to be on.

Adults and teens come to see me when there is something in their lives they want to change. This may be relief from a harsh inner critic, self doubt, sadness, and/or emptiness. It could be distress from work, school, family, relationships, or social situations. Some people are dealing with the impacts of one or more traumas. Others want help getting to the roots of body image distress or an eating disorder. Whatever the issue may be, my clients seek meaningful, lasting change. They look for both understanding and acceptance as well as the specific tools and insights that will facilitate a more satisfying life.

Most people seek out a psychologist when they have truly done their best to resolve their difficulties on their own. When you can't see your own emotional blind spots, feeling stuck and distressed can ripple through many areas of your life. Perhaps this is your first time seeking out a therapist, or perhaps you are returning to psychotherapy for a fresh perspective. As a psychologist with over 17 years of experience, I have a seasoned understanding of what leads people to hit roadblocks in their lives, in areas including work, school, marriage, parenting, family, and intimate relationships.

I have extensive experience working with teens and adults struggling with substance and behavioral addictions, depression, anxiety, life transitions, and relationship concerns, in addition to parenting and family issues.
Are you looking to make a shift in your life, free yourself from an addiction, decrease anxiety, or improve your relationship with others and live a life that is most meaningful for you? I believe therapy is a way for individuals to connect and access their own wisdom to make the necessary changes for a life that is most aspiring and fulfilling to them. I invite people to explore areas that may be affecting them and make a transition from where they are to where they would like to be. I use a treatment approach that is warm, relational, accepting and authentic, and am action-oriented and solution-focused.

Individual Therapy, Family Therapy, Medication Management, Psychological Assessment, and Educational Therapy,.
We at the Bay Area Center for Adolescents understand that adolescence can be a difficult time for preteens, teens, young adults, and parents. On the one hand, adolescents are learning to manage life on their own and wanting more independence, but on the other hand, they may not be prepared for the responsibilities of life or realizing the consequences of their actions. We work with adolescents and their families to navigate this difficult time while helping adolescents to become independent, but still maintain the relationship with family. The Bay Area Center for Adolescents is a group of providers who all know how to connect with adolescents and their families and provide effective therapy.

My approach to therapy is integral; I work from an attachment and trauma informed lens with a deep grounding in relational psychoanalytic theory. I have experience with treating depression and anxiety, low self-esteem, questions of gender and sexuality, complex family dynamics, relationship issues, chronic pain, and grief work. My wish it to foster a therapeutic space that feels both challenging as well as safe so that we can work together to meet your treatment goals. In our work together I may bring in mindfulness techniques, parts work, attachment theory, dream work, movement, and myth.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
