Is your family going through a major life change or stressor? Perhaps a parent or child is sick? Maybe there has been a loss, a move, or another big event? As a parent, you want so badly to support your child when they are dealing with changes, but sometimes you just don't know how. You might feel guilty, sad or frustrated that you don't know how to help. Your child may need their own space to process what is going on for them, as well as a safe space where you can work through these adjustments together. Therapy can be that space.

I've had past experience in a variety of outpatient clinics as a medical social worker as well as in the nonprofit sector providing grief support for families.
Starting therapy can feel intimidating, and I’m so glad you’ve decided to consider taking this first step in pursuing support. I want our sessions together to feel comfortable, safe, and meaningful. While I do my best to tailor therapy sessions to each individuals' goals and preferences, I do hope that over time I can help you learn to give yourself the gift of more self-compassion as you continue to navigate the various seasons of life.

I specialize in working alongside victims of sexual trauma, survivors of human trafficking, and childhood grief.
You've been through so much, and you're tired of carrying these heavy emotions on your own. There are days when you find it difficult to cope, and it feels like the weight of the world is on your shoulders. The last thing you need is to feel stuck or helpless. You're not one to back down from a challenge, but there are moments when it all feels overwhelming, and it's hard to keep your resilience intact.

My work focuses on the impact of sexual violence, sexual health, LGBT clients, gender identity, eating disorders, grief and loss, relationship concerns, PTSD, as well as other mental health challenges.
It is important to me that I offer a safe, respectful and confidential environment for clients as they process challenges in their lives. I believe that every individual has the ability to recognize their internal self-worth, which external factors often impede. I believe in focusing on the person as a whole, with attention to the emotional, physical, and spiritual components of wellness. I have a great deal of respect for my clients, and I recognize the strength it takes to address concerns and seek assistance. It is my goal to offer encouragement and support as clients work towards making positive changes to their lives.

Life is busy. Life is chaotic. And figuring out how to balance it all can feel mentally, physically and emotionally draining. My goal is to help you find some calm in the chaos, and regain a sense of inner peace. When facing issues such as anxiety, depression, grief, or distress, we find that your mental health and physical health are affected. The body can hold onto emotions and trauma, so we can work together to release and let go of that which we no longer need. Sometimes time does not "heal all", the body keeps score. Self-care is how you take your power back, and I am here to support you along the way.

I offer two broad categories of services. First, I provide onsite grief or critical incident support in the workplace. Employers or EAPs request that I come to the workplace to provide immediate emotional first aid after there has been a crisis or disruption affecting employees. The types of workplace events I often respond to include: Death of a Coworker, Layoffs, Injury, Violence, Robbery, Mass Shootings, and Natural Disasters. I am generally available for onsite employee services within 24-48 hours, and I am able to travel quite a distance to your location.

I have worked with all manner of mental health issues in the past, with a special interest in transitions, grief, and loss.
I view life as a process of learning, about ourselves, the world, and our place in it. Challenges and difficulties arise in people's lives a various points, and for various reasons. These provide an opportunity for growth and change, either through adapting and overcoming our problems, or through learning something new. I focus on where each person is in their life without judgment, and works to facilitate growth and improvement in the situation through whatever means that particular person finds most effective.

These last few years of the pandemic have been very difficult for most people. I have seen a surge in anxiety, depression, loneliness, stress on marriages and family relationships, health issues, and loads of despair and grief. The pandemic has seemed to push some of these issues to the front and center for people and they can no longer be avoided or dismissed. It is a sensitive time for people to begin addressing their need for help. It can be so overwhelming and difficult to know how to begin talking about it - especially with someone who is a stranger such as myself.

I specialize in supporting people navigating grief, loss, and people who are living with chronic, life-limiting, or serious illness.
I believe we all deserve to feel heard and to experience authentic connection with someone. My goal is to create a therapeutic relationship where you feel empowered and motivated to create positive change in your life. Sometimes we get stuck in patterns and need help to get back in touch with the most important relationship---the one we have with ourselves. This takes trust, support, time and accountability. My role as a therapist is as both a guide and as a witness, helping you to explore and overcome barriers to living fully by drawing upon your own strengths.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
