Are you struggling with trauma, grief, or loss? As a first-generation Armenian-American from an immigrant family, I understand the unique challenges that come with navigating relationships, family, and work while carrying around the complexities of intergenerational trauma. Grief and loss can take many forms, and not all are widely recognized or supported by society. This is called disenfranchised grief, the type of grieving that can leave you believing you are alone, but the truth is that you are not.

I believe that every person has the potential to change and grow in spite of life's challenges. My background is in trauma and grief, which I view as the primary stressors manifesting in anxiety, depression, and difficulty functioning in day-to-day life. I support my clients in growing beyond their negative life experiences so they can experience confident hope as they move forward in life. I enjoy working with people of all ages, and I maintain specialty training for early childhood (birth - 5) and teens.

I approach therapy with the spirit of recognizing the primary human need to find meaning and purpose in life’s situations and experiences, especially those that are painful. So, whether you are experiencing suffering that is the result of anger, depression, anxiety, grief, addiction, trauma, or relational distress, my focus (given my training and experience through the years) will be to give you the tools to reduce your suffering and for you to see that there is light at the end of the tunnel.

With sensitivity, compassion to help provide support in working with a broad range of issues such as relationship conflicts, anxiety, depression, grief/loss and loss of enjoyment in life.
Many individuals find themselves in moments where getting through the day can be a struggle and have no idea what could be triggering this loss of excitement and hope. In these moments it can be helpful to work with a therapist that can provide a safe space to openly talk about what life challenges have presented themselves in your life. I specialize in working collaboratively with Adults of all ages and I help provide guidance towards a path of regaining the self you feel you have lost and gaining hope for the possibilities ahead.

I am an energetic, contentedly divorced woman in my early 60's who knows how hard it can be to feel comfortable telling a total stranger about personal concerns. I value your trust in my professional intention to help you feel better about yourself and your life, to move beyond "just getting through each day". So much of our inability to enjoy ourselves, to find fulfillment in our daily lives, is due to fear, shame, and/or challenges in "letting go" when faced with loss (whether it be a relationship, job, or a loved one's death). I believe every client who seeks therapy is courageous and has many, often undiscovered, strengths.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
