So many of us live stressful, anxiety provoking, hectic lives that it can be difficult to understand why our body and emotions react the way that they do. Whether it is past or present trauma, depression, anxiety, family issues, relationship problems, etc., we deserve to find a way to get help and live our best life. Utilizing eclectic methods such as CBT, DBT, motivational interviewing and a humanistic approach with clients, I have been a witness to many client’s successful transformations and growth in therapy.

It is my experience that an empathic approach that is strength-based and grounded in science provides the most optimal therapeutic outcomes. While the foundations of my therapeutic approach are behavioral and cognitive- behavioral, I view compassion as an integral component to the way in which I practice. I believe that growth and change are fostered in environments in which individuals are seen and heard and differences are honored. It is therefore my primary mission to provide a safe and supportive environment for each individual and family member that I work with.

With over 15 years of experience, I have enjoyed working with clients doing individual, group and family sessions in both English and Spanish.
There are times in our lives when we feel stuck or overwhelmed by circumstances. Though life challenges are part of our journey, therapy can help bring out clarity at times when things seem murky. I view our work together as a mutual collaboration and feel honored to be a part of your journey towards change. I have a gentle yet interactive style of working and infuse a variety of techniques in my work. My clients find me to be very easy to talk to and engaging.

My approach is psychodynamic drawing upon internal family systems, inner child work, CBT, guided imagery, Inner Bonding and the Release Technique.
Everyone has the ability to heal from the deepest of wounds and the most challenging of circumstances. There's a saying, "Healing is the application of love to the places inside that hurt." I'm here to fully support you in tending to those places. Together we will journey into understanding the major themes and patterns in your life and what they are trying to teach you. This increased level of awareness can help you access your strength and intuition, eliminate negative self talk and choose a more fulfilling relationship with yourself, others and life. I offer a 15 minute meet and greet to ensure we are a good fit.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
